Wonderful story
This charming story reads like a folktale. It is set in Africa so quite different from the US. The moral that beauty without kindness and compassion is worthless

Beautiful Book
The story starts with Mufaro, a man with two beautiful daughters whom he loves equally. Because of this love, he can find no fault with either of them. So, when he hears that a prince is looking for a beautiful wife, he believes that both of his daughters have a chance at true happiness. Both daughters set out to see the prince, but along the way they will be given three trials that test the source of true beauty--their heart.I loved this story as a child, and I still love the story now. Not only is it based on South African folklore, but it also features beautiful and warm illustrations on each page.

Beautiful book with wonderful message
Beautiful book with a wonderful message. I had to track it down after remembering it as a child. It was especially touching to read the background behind the story itself and all the research that went into bringing to life an African story. The story has a great message that teaches children the importance of kindness.

A Treasured Book From My Childhood~ ^.^
I remember this treasured book by memory from my childhood in primary school, late 90's. I also remember my teacher reading it to us in class and me actually reading it myself because I loved it so much. To this very day, I knew most of the story off by heart but couldn't remember the title. Thanks to Google, I found it after all these years with the beautiful cover and illustrations, just how remembered them~<3 I am so happy to finally have a brand new copy of this memorable story to have, read and treasure for my very own. It's such a good story with a great moral, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys an inspired tale from Africa, which is also a tribute to all the children of South Africa.Truly worth five stars, thank-you so much~! :D

Mufaros beautiful daughters, an African folklore
Beautifully illustrated. African folklore story. Lovely to see African people in a child's book. It was used for national book day to dress up the princess

Beautiful illustrations
This is a traditional tale with a cultural element. The story is well written with the good and bad characters clearly identified. As with all traditional tales, there is a moral focus and the ending is positive and uplifting. The best thing in this book, however, is the beautiful artwork. The illustrations complement the story perfectly. This story can be read by confident readers independently, or shared by non-readers with an adult. The pictures can tell the story by themselves.
