The Phoenicians: A Captivating Guide to the History of Phoenicia and the Impact Made by One of the Greatest Trading Civilizations of the Ancient World

Kinda wish there was more on Carthage but I guess most history fans will always say that. I did enjoy the parts with the Hittites & the Assyrians and how the Phoenicians dearth with those powers.

I have read and traveled to see history worldwide. THE PHOENICIANS book is an easy read and helps to make the complexities of the ancient Mediterranean world and interwoven cultures a bit more human.

A somewhat brief look at the Phoenicians. It gives good sight into the culture. The trade routes I was primarily interested in, apparently is largely lacking since much information was likely on papyrus. All in all a fairly good compilation.

I do love these Captivating History books. They are an excellent summary of what is known, with an excellent bibliography to go through if want to learn more.

The Phoenicians are my distant ancestors and to learn about them was enlightening.

Some books in this Captivating History series are OK. But this one is terrible. Many parts of it contradict each other. It seems to be mostly drawn from Wikipedia and other articles on the internet, without actually understanding them. I’ve read other books on the ancient Mediterranean where archaeologists show reliable dates and facts that disprove too many of the things found here. It’s just bad in so many ways.

This book is okay. Reader must already be a student of history and theology to discard the B.S., and get to honest facts.
