Nutty, bold and warm.
Quite pleased with this purchase. These are more of a bold nutty flavor and well separating grains. Extra long as a true basmati should be. Good value. These were very fresh. They cooked up totally normal in time and right in line with a very nice quality basmati. Everything about this product was as a basmati should be. The only thing that I would say about it that was different is the flavor is a bit warmer a little bit bolder, and slightly more nutty than others I’ve had. It’s actually very nice. I will buy it again.

Brown Rice
This rice is pricey but this is the first brown rice that I can truly say that I like the taste. I found that if you soak the rice a few hours before cooking and put the correct amount of water then you will have a flavorful tasting rice. This rice did not appear nutty or extremely crunchy. Another helpful suggestion, if you have a rice cooker that has a brown rice feature on it, use it. I know that brown rice is healthier for our bodies so I am happy that I finally found a winner.

Not a good batch
This would have been a great value had I been able to use it. But it's rancid. This is the first time I've ever had a problem with rice going rancid. I received this order about 2 months ago and stored it in a cool, dry place while I used up my stock. I opened it tonight to use some, and the smell hit me right off as just not right. I rinsed multiple times as I usually do hoping it would get better. Nope, still the same. So I thought I'd try cooking some still hoping for the best. It smelled faintly of pine sol. Bleh. And as I expected, the rice is not edible. 10 lbs of rice just went into the trash. Maybe I just got some from a bad batch, but I won't ever order this product again based on my experience. I'm going back to my previous brand. It might be a bit more expensive, but it's reliably good.

Excellent Brown Basmati Rice from Pride of India
We very much liked the Pride of India Brown Basmati rice that we had previously purchased in the pricey 3lb container that we tried our first time out to see if we even liked the brown basmati. Liked it very much, but we needed to move on to a larger quantity to get a more affordable price per pound. I was very hesitant to buy this 5lb bag because of the jute bag that gave me concern of insects and spoilage as noted in some reviews. And the 10lb purchase is just too much for only 2 people. Thanks to the responses to my posted question about the packaging, I was informed the rice was concealed in a plastic bag within the jute bag, providing decent protection for the product. Upon receipt, I opened it right away to check for insects and potential mustiness/spoilage and am satisfied of the quality of the product received within. I would not recommend keeping it stored in this bag once opened (Not really resealable) and transferred mine to a sealable storage container. The seller/manufacturer should update their website listing reflecting the full nature of the packaging. To be honest I would prefer updated packaging that was either a resealable container like the 3lb tub or and all plastic resealable bag. Either would be fine with me. Having said all that, we really like the Pride of India Brown Basmati the best of the 3 brands we have tried and will continue to buy. We don't really mind the cook time required. We cook a cup at a time using chicken broth/stock and it makes more than enough for more than 2 meals for the two of us. Since the second meal is simply a reheat with a short fix time, the 2 meals preparation kind of balance out.

a fine rice
OMG. As a lifelong rice lover, I wanted to try an actual Indian grown basmati. The grains are thinner than, an American style rice, so reduce your cooking time by a few minutes. This is a premium grade rice, as it should be, at this price point. Few, if any broken grains with a uniform grain size. I would also recommend rinsing this rice in cold water and use a bamboo steamer. I also use a parchment liner, inside the steamer. Set your timer. I’m old school, no electric rice cookers for me. Once cooked fluff the 3/4” to 1” long cooked grains Bentley with a fork and dug in.

Don't follow package instructions
We cooked according to package directions and with our normal method for cooking rice and both times it was unacceptably chewy and crunchy. Had the same texture as wild rice. I didn't want so much rice to go to waste so after some poking around on the internet we found a number of methods to cook this and it's much better when properly cooked. Easiest: rinse then boil in way more water than you need for 30min uncovered, drain then cover and stream for 10 minutes.

Except for the packaging, this is a wonderful product. The packaging does not allow for sealing the product.
