The closer works well.Looking at the reviewers pics here, I see the assembly mounted on the door instead of the jam and other various assembly errors. The directions were not followed!These were mounted on the 2 doors shown so the dogs can go into the laundry room and through the doggy door. Then come back in and then they push the other door open and come in the house and I don't lose any heat with them going in/out.I do hear the internal spring late at night when the dogs come in, but during the day I don't hear it.A little Super Lube 31110 every so often really quiets the springs.To stop the heavy slam, if moving the bar to the next hole doesn't work.Mark the bar on the side away from the door, put the bar in a vise and very slowly bend the non-threaded bar end; kind of like an "L". Put the bar back in the closer and try again. If you still need less slam, remove the bar and repeat the process.I'm buying a third one today!

Great product that really works well, but I bought it through Amazon Fulfillment and there were several small parts missing. None that I couldn't replace, so I didn't bother returning it but one of the screws and the small bar that is used to increase the tension were missing. Other than that, the door closer works much better than the one that I previously had (the type that fits on the hinge pin) If not for the missing parts would give it 5 starsI installed this on the back door of my house at my ranch. It is often quite windy there. I wanted something that would close the door but would allow me to close it without latching so my dog could get in. I found that one was not enough for my door. After tightening more and more, the spring finally gave out. I got a replacement spring but decided to install a second closer on the door. One is at the top and one at the bottom. That works better, but still, on a windy day, if I don't latch the door, the wind will keep it partially open. I've now ordered a third closer to put in the middle. All in all, I'm happy with the product, but buyers should be aware that there are situations where it might not prove adequate.

My room is down the hall from another family member. Sometimes she complains about my computer speakers being a little too loud. I run my business in the room. I want my privacy. Sometimes I walk in and out forgetting to close the door. It's a relatively light hollow core wood door. Thought about getting closer hinges. Reviews are not that good. Then found this closer. It's not big, chunky or expensive like a commercial or external door closer. Very simple, a spring that pushes the door closed. It was very easy to install. Some past complaints about noise in operation. The maker seems to have responded by heavily greasing the springs, something some users had to do.. The lowest setting closes the door without latching it. That is not bad, gentle and quiet. Holds it against the frame. The next position actually latches the door. Sounds like a gentle slam. Trying it, but I think I prefer the quieter close to avoid noise in the middle of the night.

Good but the spring is losing tension

This thing is perfect! I'm a nut for having my door close behind me but to have it close completely I have to slam it, which I don't like. This device solved it. Closes the door perfectly everything. And if I'm coming back through with full hands I just stop it just before it latches so I can open it hands free. If I just let go of the door anywhere from about a quarter to fully open, it closes perfectly every time. My door is hollow core so it's fairly light but I don't have this closer set to anywhere near full force. It could definitely handle heavier doors. Maybe not quite the front door with all the weather stripping but two of these would certainly do the trick and still be a deal at that. Highly recommended!

I have a door to all my controls in my RV in the middle of a stairwell. I'm constantly leaving the control center door open, step up a step & crack the top of my head on the door. The Safety Spring door closer WORKS. It closes the door and I don't crack my head anymore.I used the 2nd door closer on my pantry door which is behind the slide out. When traveling down the road, the pantry door comes open; when we stop and open the slide out, the pantry door could get caught on the slide out. Haven't had a catastrophe, but with door closer, I don't have to worry about a catastrophe happening.

This might have more closing force than the hinge pin types that I've used in the past. But the hinge pin types have more variation the the fine tuning of the closing force. This is on a 30" hollow core slab door inside the house. The closing force is either unlatched or slam it shut. Nothing in between Also, when the door is opened and closing the spring in this thing makes the sound of a small gong being struck. Doooonnnnnggg. If you need to be called to Tibetan prayer circle every time your door opens, this is the closer for you. Also, this requires 4 holes in the door casing and one hole in the door for the screws. I started this review with 3 stars, but I'm going to reduce it to 1 star. I didn't realize how much I dislike this closer until I started itemizing my issues. Next time I need a closer, I'll buy a hinge pin. I'd return this one, but now I have 5 holes that would have to be filled and painted. Oh, one other thing; this closer is no candidate for the museum of modern art. It's ugly with a capital UG. So, I imagine my wife will eventually make me take it off. So, I might as well take it off now, get out the sandpaper and paint and send this klodhopper back for a refund. Now I got myself all worked up.
