Solitary marine biology student Siobhan endures a week on a ragged fishing trawler, where she's miserably at odds with the close-knit crew. But out in the deep Atlantic, an unfathomable life form ensnares the boat. When members of the crew start succumbing to a strange infection, Siobhan must overcome her alienation and win the crew's trust, before everyone is lost.

Superb acting. Unoriginal premise but had potential. Ruined by illogical plot
Acting was very good by every cast member, can't argue against that, definitely the highlight of this movie. Loved the lead actress despite hating her thinking/reasoning in this movie.Movie had some really nice shots but it wasn't the most action packed nor had very much opportunity to show off what else they could do in the visual department. This is definitely not an original idea. This like a PG-rated version of The Thing if it was on a boat in the ocean and had way wayyy less gore and action. The movie started out nice, but was quickly ruined for me due to the super illogical plot decisions that just coming and coming once the "monster" had appeared in the movie. Despite really liking the acting and all of the characters, I felt the movie was totally ruined by the ridiculous plot and decisions made. It was very frustrating. Made no sense. Such as shame because this could have had potential if they didn't end up going in the direction they did. There aren't many high quality production movies in this genre, though it does seem to be gaining some traction/popularity...Anyway, I'm giving it 3 stars for the acting/characters and some of the filmatography. I really liked the acting/characters, they didn't a fantastic job in that department. But the story/plot became so illogical that I almost feel like I should give this 2 stars. If you're immune to dumb decisions and illogical plot lines, then you might like this movie, but if you're like me where that stuff will ruin a movie for you quickly, then steer clear if you don't want to end up being frustrated.Keep reading if you want to know the biggest reason for my dislike about it but know that it is a bit of a spoiler. not major spoiler, but it does reveal plot lines, so don't keep reading if you don't want to be spoiled.SPOILER...SPOILER...SPOILER...OK so you want to know what I really hated about this movie and what ruined it for me? This is just one major critique, there are other things that really bothered me as well but not nearly as much as this:The scientist decides for everyone that they can't get rescue because they need to quarantine themselves due to possibly being infected. She argues that as soon as they make land and are given help, they will likely spread the infection to others and then the spread will happen way too fast to control (she's guessing, she doesn't know anything about the infection or if they are actually infected at this point or anything about what's going on). The scientist gives a real life example about Christmas Island and how a couple ants had made it to the island and ended up blinding all of the red crabs there; a couple of ants had become so invasive that they wiped out the crabs (as if that's the same thing... ants/crabs vs intelligent humans...), so they must do everything they can to prevent a similar scenario happening when they make it to land, the infection that they are guessing about. They don't even know if they are actually infected, well at least not until much later in the movie, and their testing methods were RUDIMENTARY at best. An arbitrary test of looking in the eyes of people to see if you see a parasite shimmer (no timing of when it would be visible or anything, just whenever they felt like looking). But the problem I have with this is it's like the scientist has never heard of new viruses and infections and whatever else happening back in the real world on land. What happens when someone gets infected with a new virus, just isolate them and leave them to die? No, they are quarantined and are studied so they can understand how to help others. The scientist doesn't seem to think like this despite coming from a research/scientific background...Once these people in the movie were are able to make it to land, they just need to inform the government or whoever that they are possibly infected with a very dangerous infection and that they need to take caution to protect themselves. Then they could have been helped with trying to rid themselves of the infection. But nope, the scientist decides that they must stay out in sea without any contact because it's possible that they might be infected and that it's also possible that they could spread the infection. Probably a good 40% of the movie is spent trying to convince the crew members that they must stay out at sea so that they don't spread the possible infection. Which means, if they are infected, they die instead of possibly getting cured. Not to mention letting the rest of humanity know about this new deadly infection.OK that's pretty much it for my big gripe against this movie. I probably didn't explain it well and doesn't seem that bad, but it totally ruined the movie for me. It was just so illogical and made the movie boring because I could no longer care about this lead character due to her stupid line of thinking.

3.5 stars. Rooted in a kind of reality, interesting but just not scary.
This is more of an interesting sci-fi/drama kind of thing than a horror movie. It owes a great debt to ALIEN, but while many of the story beats feel similar, it fails to actually get the pulse racing like ALIEN did. But it's still an interesting film with some interesting characters. We meet Siobhan, a marine biology student, as she is preparing to do a sort of "ride along" with a fishing trawler...doing some scientific experiences out on the ocean. She's not there to help the crew, the ship owners are being paid to accomodate her. And we learn early on that the two owners (Connie Nielsen and Dougray Scott) NEED the money. Turns out, it's a good thing she's there, because before you know it, a mysterious deep sea creature has emerged and causes quite a bit of dangerous, even fatal, trouble for the ship's crew and only Siobhan's scientic knowledge is likely to help them find a way out.The creature, while not nearly as scary as the ALIEN, is good at hiding and then popping out at inconvenient times. And this is really how the bulk of the movie plays out. How will the crew find a way to survive while they slowly try to return to shore in their damaged craft? The scenes of violence and attack are played out well enough, but there's nothing groundbreaking going on either. What kept me interested in SEA FEVER were the characters. Siobhan herself is interesting...prickly, introverted but really just eager to make some friendly human connections. She is normally reticent to engage with strangers, but the close quarters force it. And she finds some kindred spirits and a well of toughness. Nielsen and particularly Scott are interesting as the owners. They are very hard-up for money. They are a couple that's been together for a long time, but still have a rough affection for each other that bubbles up through their anxiety. And Scott has a deep and believable strain of religious faith that you seldom see portrayed with such relative casualness. The supporting cast are generally well sketched, and the casting is very diverse, but without being distracting. And I have to say that actress Olwen Fouere is an amazingly striking presence. I hate to judge on appearance, but she is unique and amazing looking. So watching the dynamics of these characters is what makes this film interesting. They pull together under unfortunate circumstances. As a "creature feature", this film is less thrilling than one might like. But as a richly realized but low key sci-fi thriller, it's pretty impressive, especially with its very low budget. Worth a look, for sure.

Things happen at sea
Siobhán (Hermione Corfield ) is a student working on her doctorate. She is on a fishing boat and is looking for anomalies. The boat enters the exclusion zone looking for fish and comes in contact with a new kind of giant quid that attaches its tentacles to the hull creating infections. Sea Fever was defined as a psychosis caused by sleep deprivation. Now it takes on a whole new meaning as the crew fights to stay alive.A very timely film during a pandemic. Characters tended to be dull. A different take on the squid monster genre.Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity. 3 1/2 stars

Timely thriller...
This Irish syfy thriller probably went directly to video in the United States, but it could hardly be more timely in its plot and consequences. Siobhan, a young, socially awkward marine biology student, gets sent to sea on a fishing boat for some field work. The small crew welcomes her with some caution, but are too busy trying to make a living to worry too much about her.Well out at sea, and fishing in a closed area, the fishing boat seems to run aground on...something. Siobhan goes over the side in diving gear to check out the problem, which turns out to be something she's never seen before. And that something has no intention of letting them go...Production values are decent. The accented dialogue may be a bit difficult to follow for U.S. audiences. It is a nicely done mystery that lays on mounting suspense and horror. Hermione Corfield is a scene stealer, wonderful as the young student. Worth a look as decent entertainment.

Tedious , predictable and poorly acted
What a disappointment, even Dougray Scott and Connie Neilsen were struggling with the script, acting was awful. The film itself was totally predictable and boring.Even the “alienesque” sticky stuff looked like hair gel.Pretty awful

three rules for great film making Story story story.
I enjoyed the film. The restricted area on board the fishing trawler for the camera movement added to the looming claustrophobia. Special effects were kept to the minimum but when the special makeup did make an appearance the gore was realistic. If you enjoy a sea tale get "Sea Fever".

Unhappy
Film starts off on a good footing, mysterious, un-nerving and first crew death scene was good, then just down hill,no more make you jump bits, no horror, and poor end.Started like the alien movie with Jake Gillenhall Life and ended, well, just ended.Glad it wasn't on cinema release, I would have asked for a refund.
