Quantity, quality and price make this a great buy!
This is a “must have” for emergencies that requiresuperficial wound clotting. My 5 year old American Bulldog is very rambunctious and will occasionally cut himself. He’s a working Dog and a hard player. Accidents happen and applying pressure to a bleeding wound doesn’t always work. This product has an awesome clotting factor that I can rely on. It’s large enough of a bottle that I can fill several 35mm film canisters with it. I keep them in all of my Dog first aid kits. I keep one in the car, in my tackle box, by the back door and in my beach back pack. Atlas stepped on a broken bottle while we walked on the beach a couple of years ago. He had a deep cut to his front paw that bled a lot. Once I rinsed it off I covered the wound with this powder and wrapped it with my t-shirt. I took him to the Vet whom told me that he was very lucky I knew how to stop it from bleeding. It was during that visit that I learned to not use hydrogen peroxide on his minor bleeding wounds. The quantity, quality and price make this a great buy!

Great value and works excellently. Prepare ahead with mortar/pestle for much better experience.
I needed something to counteract the effects of blood thinning medication and my preferred choice of the shrimp shell (chitosan) based clotting aids were waaayyyy too expensive for my means. The quick-clot stuff that was adopted by (designed by?) the military is based on a chemical treatment of the shrimp shell discards from shrimp processing plants that converts the shell material into the clotting helper. There are some other clotting agents that come in little tubes and other delivery methods that also looked effective but again were waayy too expensive still. I took an informed chance on this stuff and am now confident that for the next 10 years I'll have a way to stop those miserable never stop bleeding abrasions and cuts for less than $20. The bad you ask? This stuff stings like fury! (but is worth it...) AND the grain size of the coarse sand-like mixture is quite large and sharpish so they are uncomfortable to apply to a cut just due to their physical attribute not counting the actual sting of the chemicals themselves. The grains appear to be a mix of different "lawn fertilizer" like materials and I think they activate as they dissolve in the liquid of the blood and mix with blood components (especially Iron). Grinding the grain mix into a much finer powder should help greatly with the 1) ease of application; 2) comfort; & 3) speed of stoppage. I haven't prepared my "supply" of powder yet but I did purchase a mortar & pestle so I can!

Blood Stop
This product is a must have for your medicine cabinet. I have birds & cats, so when I trim their nails sometimes they move & the nail gets cut a little too short & starts bleeding. So I grab this & a q-tip to apply & stop the bleeding. This has also come in handy over a holiday weekend when I cut my hand & wasn't fond of going to the ER. Used this product ( took a couple of applications ) & got the bleeding stopped. Several hours later was able to clean injury, use medicated ointment & bandage. Healed fine!

I am a dog groomer and this product works better for wounds on farm animas.for nails on on dogs takes to long to stop the bleeding.

It's actually quite a lot for not much money
This is a lot of blood stop for the money. Actually, it's a lot of blood stop to have around in any case because most average people could never hope to use this much in a lifetime. However, it's quality product and a good size for a dog kennel or animal shelter, and quite a bit cheaper per ounce than most; this might be one of those things to gift your local animal shelter if you're inclined to give something they usually have to pay out of pocket.

Not very effective
I bought this to use when clipping my dogs nails. I work in a Vet Office and they use a name-brand styptic powder which I first looked up. The name brand was pricey so I asked one of our technicians if there was any reason it was better than another, and he didn't think so.Blood Stop was amazingly cheap by comparison, so I bought it.I have used both "Name Brand" and Blood Stop many times before writing this review, and there is just no comparison. Blood Stop works probably a little less well than baking soda, and smells awful. The main ingredient is ferrous sulfate - so it has a strong metallic smell, which to me smells VERY strongly of blood - since blood is already on your mind when using it."Name Brand" stops most kwik cuts in seconds, some of the worse ones you have to hold for a minute or so. Blood Stop clumps the blood and causes a mess, and does not noticeably stem the flow of it at all. If I have to hold it in place for 5 minutes every time, I think it's merely applying pressure that is letting the blood clot, not the Blood Stop.Anyway, I'm very disappointed. After the 10th or so time it disappointed me I decided to throw it away.
