Awesome music!
From the deep resonating organ music in "The Kraken", the war drums of "Dinner is Served," to the soft music box tones in "Davy Jones," "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" has an absolutely fabulous musical score. The only reason why I rated it only four stars instead of five is because of the last track, the remix of "He's a Pirate." It's over seven minutes of disco-sounding music! If you listen to it just for itself, it's not bad at all. But if you try to listen to it as "Pirates" music, it just doesn't work. But I definitely recommend the CD for fans of movie soundtracks, and "Pirates" fans--you won't be disappointed!By the way, we're using the remix of "He's a Pirate" for a parade--it's got a good beat, it's just not "Pirate" music!

Hans Zimmer Provides A Brilliant Continuation For The Trilogy, Not A Reincarnation Of Badelt's Score To The First Film
The first Pirates Of The Caribbean score is one of the most popular adventure scores of all time and I can't believe it was not nominated. Klaus Badelt composed the score with very little time to do so, which is why Hans Zimmer helped guide him through the process. If you look on the back of the CD case of the first score, you will see that the score is "over"produced by Hans Zimmer. Zimmer did write some stuff for the first film, but Klaus helmed it and it turned out simply amazing. Now the master takes over for the apprentice and Hans Zimmer delivers an excellent but very different score for the sequel.I think the major difference between the scores is the tone. Badelt's score was much lighter and had an epic feel to it while Zimmer's score is darker and much heavier. Since we are dealing with a trilogy I am assuming that the three films will be different in tone as well. Zimmer's score is a full-blown synth/orchestration that borrows themes from the first score as well as add a whole new feel. We are in the belly of the whale here, and the score definately suggests that. A lot of people will probably say that they enjoyed the first score versus this one, and I can understand that. Hans Zimmer doesn't really establish the main themes that we heard in the first one. Instead he only brings them in once in a while just to remind us that this is a continuation of the first movie and not a reincarnation. The highlight of the album is definately track 2 where we hear some signature Zimmer. He uses a structure that reminds me of his work on King Arthur. I absolutely loved this score and can't wait to hear his score to the trilogy's final installment next summer.

Moving Music
At times the cd will sound purely pirate, at other times it'll have pieces that seem vaguely like Lord of the Rings, and at a time or two (esp that bonus track) you'll feel like you should be beating up the boss of an early 1990s video game baddie. It could be the coffee I had this morning, but I was listening to the cd while reading and couldn't sit down. I just had to pace, dance, move, do something! Kinda powerful stuff this piratey soundtrack:-)

The Saga Continues
And a saga this is. The soundtrack introduces us to the theme of the heart in the Dead Man's Chest, and it sets the tone for the consequences of everyone's actions. Of course, there is the broad sweep of it's "pirate-ness", you can almost see the sword play and feel the breeze from the bow of the ships. Yet, Zimmer has included some musical humor and Jack's swagger is still present in his theme. Great score.

New definition of "classical music"!
If you liked the music of the movie and wondered how come since you did not care much for orchestra performances yet, I think it is a great opportunity to give it a try. I think you will like this CD. Only one advice: listen the whole think from the beginning to the end, do not change the volume. The impact is guaranteed.Personally I liked "Dead Man's Chest" (composed by Hans Zimmer) a little bit better comparing to "The Curse of The Black Pearl" (composed by Klaus Badelt). We can argue about this statement, but I am sure we all agree that we would love to hear these performances alive.Anyhow, I encourage you to get "The Curse of The Black Pearl" (composed by Klaus Badelt) too, and the soundtrack of "The Last Samurai" (composed by Hans Zimmer).Miklos

A great CD.
This is really some of the most exciting music written in this century. It is Symphonic, excitingly bold, harmonic, and imaginative.

Love the sound track, hate the remixes
I love the Pirates movies and love all of the sound tracks. This one is my least favorite because of the number of remixes. It seemed like they were just trying to fill the CD and didn't have enough so they included a bunch of remixes that I'm not very fond of. Luckily, I don't have to listen to them. Because there were so many remixes on the CD, I only gave this a 4 and not a 5.

Dead man's chest.
This is not as interesting as I hoped it might be. Some of the tracks are very samey. It did not have much of the famous theme that one associates with Pirates of the Caribbean.

Music of Pirates of the Caribbean
Wished there was a longer "Jacks Song". A lot of inter scene music, probably to fill the CD.So ok not brilliant.
