Amazing Candied Ginger
I was watching a cooking show late one night and the lady chef grabbed a jar of crystalized ginger. I have had candied ginger before, but she is British and raved about the product. I enjoy trying new flavors and different products so I went searching. I quickly settled on Waitrose crystalized ginger and my order was placed. I will note that the shipping is a little slow. Think USPS and Royal mail and a pond in between!Wow! I am not disappointed. I also bought my local GIANT grocery store chain's house candied ginger as well as another smaller but nationally known chain's candied ginger. Head to head, the number three ginger is going back. It had a bad after taste. The number two ginger has a strong but pleasant ginger flavor, just enough sugar and a good texture, but it is not as smooth on texture and the ginger flavor is not quite as balanced as the Waitrose. The Waitrose product is hands down the winner. The pieces are the perfect size to give you enough but not too much. The texture pushes it over the top. They are soft and perfectly smooth. The other gingers had some rough, fibrous materials and the Waitrose does not. I don't know how they do it, but it is superb. To demonstrate how much I like these ginger bites, I keep them in my office. This keeps the family's grubby hands off my ginger and allows me to enjoy my treat, one per day. The shipping is expensive, but for me, it was worth it.
