Q: Does it reduce inflammation?

It helps a little to get some of the flexibility back into place. Especially if use on a daily basis. However, it does not get rid off the inflammation entirely. It calms the pain on the area slightly, because one of the ingredients is Salicylate which is the same as aspirin. I think Iodex is a good old fashion product. I have used this product easily for 40 years...and it works for me.

Q: Is this ointment Black?

Yes. Its like black Vaseline, and this is an old home my medicine and an amazing product that prevents bruising if applied to the skin shortly after being bumped. My family has used this product for , believe it or not, FIFTY years!!! Nothing works as well or is more effective against bruising. The only caveat is that it will stain clothing if not rubbed into the skin thoroughly, but this is a small compromise to make given its 100 percent effectiveness. There's No home remedy that I know of that works as well and dozens of family members and friends now use it as there go-to remedy with one use. Highest recommendation!!!

Q: What are the ingredients besides methyl salicylate?

Active ingredients: 4.8% oil of wintergreen(synthetic), 4.7% Iodine Other ingredients: Petrolatum, Oleic acid, Paraffin. Hope this helps you.

Q: How is this different than the original iodex?

After using Iodex for years, and comparing , I'd say there is basically no difference except for the scent.. The Methyl Salicylate has a more methonol aroma. But that's about the only difference. Great product whichever you use.
