Big Band Bossa Nova: The Newest Latin American Rhythm

Very French
When late night deep in the studio potting one busy evening I chanced on an internet radio program from Paris that played only classic and jazz melodies in rotation. The classics was like experiencing a dining entree occasionally relieving the palate by a swallow of Jazz wine, somehow the experience is enhanced in the most divine way that has to be felt more than understood.Wondered if the same the same could happen with my 2 collections, played about and the effect worked! My collection is however way classical, and my jazz, outside of Miles Davis and Cannonball Adderly is awfully small for any kind of experience.Youtube albums to the rescue.A host of styles and artists not known to me before. This is the first. But not the last.Update 2020: discs have gone away but it still works fine in my Toyota system.Quincy never grows old.

great album
This is just a great, pleasant album that makes me happy. I think the people who reviewed this negatively didn't think it was true enough to "bossa nova" and wasn't authentic enough, but who the hell cares? For me personally, I think Quincy's arrangements of classics like "desafinado" are the best around, including Stan Getz's versions. They are very different sounds. Quincy's versions are generally much more upbeat and loud, but Quincy is probably the best musician/producer I have heard with perfecting the little things. The band is incredibly tight and all of the little sounds are arranged perfectly. So, this is one of my favorite albums I have bought this year, and probably in the last few years, so I would recommend buying it.

Jazz, samba, bossa-nova
If you like Quincy Jones you must have this CD, love the music on this CD. If you like Bosa Nova style music then this is also for you. So cool and hip back in the 60's still sounds wonderful with a great band, greatly enjoy this CD.

Great Bossa Nova Grooves
Oh man! This is so good, but it's roughly 35 minutes long. It's short, but I like every song. So, just let loop a few times.I recommend purchasing.

Luckily I enjoy the style and the energy of the band
The songs are bossa nova, but the production is 60's pop jazz. Luckily I enjoy the style and the energy of the band. Would fit as a soundtrack for an early 60's comedy.

Is there more than just the Austin Powers Theme?
Well, yes and no. All the melodies are good swinger fare, but none of the others have the magic of the super-famous first track. Play it at your next dinner party; everyone will love "Soul Bossa Nova", then settle into conversation while the rest of the album fills the background.

A Really Great album and an excellent transfer to CD
Famous for its opening track 'Soul Bossa Nova' featured all over the place, not least in Austin Powers, this album contains a wealth of cool tracks for background listening or for those big band fans who want to hear a slight twist on the genre. It's a great recording but one that obviously sat in the vaults a bit since the record company no longer seem to know who played on it. Yes a few featured players are mentioned but the majority are anonymous. This was originally probably put together quite quickly to cash in on the bossa nova craze but, like much of Quincey Jones's work it's subsequently been recognised as the classic that it is.

Best Bossa Nova band music that all ages can relate to
I'm not a music expert or anything like that. i just know that I like a good melody and pleasant sounds. I listen to this music in the car together with my 8 year old son and it puts a smile on both our faces. When ever I play this CD, anyone that hears it enjoys it's melodies and I keep havingt to buy it for my friends. This music is timeless and certainly sells Quincy Jones as a guy with a good ear for arranging different sounds and tempos within a piece of music. We can't get enough of the trumpets on No 3 i.e "Desafinado". We love the percussions in "Samba de Una Nota So" i.e tract 7. The flutes on track 9 and the trumpets on track 9 we could listen to over and over again. You can't go wrong with this music. My Dad is 70, I'm in my forties and my son is 8 and we all get this music. definately a quality buy.

Terrific sounds from 50 years ago
This one has certainly stood the test of time. I can remember my father buying this album a half-century ago, when bossa nova was the latest craze. It was a particular favourite of his: indeed, it never seemed to leave his turntable. Having now bought my own copy, I can understand why. With sharp arrangements by Quince, fine playing by the band, and a group of tip-top soloists - including Clark Terry (t, flhn), Roland Kirk (fl), Phil Woods (as), Paul Gonsalves (ts) and Jim Hall (g) - it's a winner.

More bostin' than Powers, Austin
From whence the Austin Powers theme came, Soul Bossa Nova. Also contains other hot latin sounds, not least Boogie Bossa Nova, a take on the Mingus Boogie Stop Shuffle. Slide into the CD player, slip on your loafers and shuffle, whilst slurping on a large caipirinha.

Hugely enjoyable CD
If you only buy one Quincy Jones CD then this is the one to have. This CD is a real gem and one of my favourite CD's - every track is quality. This is good-time music that will won't fail to put you in a playful mood, a real joy to listen to.
