A little disappointed
I think the description should have made it clear that this booklet is a Lightning Source print-on-demand job. From other information on the Amazon listing, I was expecting a book published some time in the 1990s; instead, this has a date of 2013.Although the description says 70 pages, there are only really 59 - the remainder comprising self-advertisement by the producer, something called the Fortean Centre for Zoology. Now for the text, which bears the hallmarks of a reprinted journal article - if so, I do hope the copyright holders have been fairly compensated. Roy Kerridge is well-known for his in-depth explorations of Black Britain and its subcultures; this little article focuses on the ostensibly Christian (but not solely Christian) Spiritual Baptist movement, a syncretic African-Caribbean religion transplanted by post-war migration to the UK. Kerridge attends Baptist churches in London, and meets their congregations, observing them like an ethnographer but never coldly or condescendingly.
