Wait a minute, this taste better than my stroganoff!
I have been looking into shelf stable meals for camping, emergencies and when I am just to lazy to fix a good meal. I was really excited to try this freeze dried meal from Mountain House, beef stroganoff is one of my favorite meals. This was the first time I have tried a freeze dried meal. I had watched several videos where people have lauded the taste and texture when they ate this particular product, so I was ready to see what the hype is about. These meals aren't cheap, but not much is these days, especially a hot, filling meal that taste yummy. It was very simple to prepare the entree, you tear off the top of the package and add the specified amount of water. Except I didn't, exactly. Oh, I measured 1 and 2/3 cup of water and nuked it for 4 minutes until it was boiling hot, but I only put a bit more than a cup of the hot water in the package initially. I stirred the contents around, not viciously, I didn't want the freeze dried ingredients to crumble into dust, and then sealed the package and shook it a few times for good measure. I set the timer for 5 minutes and put a kitchen towel around the bag to keep it from loosing heat. After 5 minutes, I stirred the contents some more (it was hot!,) there was some creamy sauce, it looked good, but I figured since it had to sit for 4 more minutes, it was probably still rehydrating. So, I added about 1/3 cup more water, which still wasn't all of the water that was originally called for, almost, not quite. I gave it another stir around, sealed it, shook it, wrapped the towel around it and set the timer for 4 minutes. When I opened the packet this time, it looked wonderful! The contents were thick and creamy, just like I like my stroganoff. Of course it doesn't look as good as home cooked or restaurant quality, you must remember the ingredients had to be made to a size to be freeze dried in a cost effective as well as a consistent manner. It looked good to me though and didn't look like mush. The taste was very good in my opinion. It had a strong flavor of mushrooms, onions, beef and the taste of sour cream shone through. I enjoyed it thoroughly and yes, I ate the entire bag myself. The only draw back, it gave me a bit of heartburn, which I don't usually get. This may have been more the fact I was a little piggy and not the fault of the meal. I not only plan on purchasing this particular meal again, but will be trying other Mountain House products in the near future.

Good flavor.
My husband and I get at least two meals from the package. We are in our 80" so maybe that is why. Very tasty. We eat for dinner withjust adding fruit or salad and bread. A good meal easy and quick to prepare.

I am impressed!
I originally bought this product September 21, 2021 with the intent of giving some freeze dried products a try while Camping with my adult son. It was stored in the trunk of my car in extreme weather conditions. I live in Nebraska, so the summers can get well over 100° and winters can get below zero.My son passed away unexpectedly last November and we never got the chance to take that camping trip together. Today, I decided to take this item out of my car and test it. I have never eaten freeze dried food before and with the storage conditions of extreme heat and cold for the past 2 and half years, I expected it to be totally gross. To my amazement, it was actually really really good. The instructions were clear and accurate and it was very easy to make. The noodles were not at all mushy nor were they 'Under cooked". The seasoning was perfect as well and thankfully NOT too salty. I think if I had shared this with my son, the portion would have been perfect along with a vegetable or fruit. I didn't want to try and save half for a left over, so I ate the whole thing. I would definitely purchase this product again as an easy to store food item for emergencies or camping.

Mountain House Meal
Oh my goodness this was a great meal. Enough to share or save later. Easy to make. The size was enough for 2. Cost was priced was decent. The texture was very smooth and the rice was good and the vegetables was very tender. The flavor was so consistent on every bite . I would recommend for sure. This would be great for camping, or on a picnic lunch.

Way better than you would think.
Way better than I thought it was going to be. Tried it at home before my trip and I can say it's better that some take out. Meat had a fantastic consistency and everything tasted really good! Will definitely buy more of their options.

Much like what you’re use to
Knowing this would be available to you for 30 years, and it looks and tastes like what you would expect, this is a great choice. I also prepared a package of the Peak version of Beef Stroganoff to compare. My son preferred the Peak, but my wife and I preferred Mountain House. The Peak had a sour taste so I’m not sure if it had a sour cream powder with it, but it was only dated for 5 years out.
