I'm going with the latter. This one was such a rollercoaster. I read it start to finish with my face growing hotter and redder from the angst and anger! It was for sure an emotional read, but worth it in the end.Spoilers: I didn't give it 5 starts because the MMC was PERFECT at first and then he solely messed it ALLLLL up and I don't think he did anything to redeem himself. He turned into a complete tool! Despite my disdain for this man, it was a good read. I just wish they stuck it to their parents and went to college together. Why come up with this insane plan and not tell Willa?! Cheating trope and miscommunication trope drive me up the wall. but again I enjoyed the high angst. I just wish the characters were more redeemable.

I read this book in one sitting, and I’ve waited a full 24 hours before writing my review because I want to be able to give this book the justice it so fully deserves. Even still, 24 hours later I’m not sure I have all of the right words. I can always count on Ella Fields to write a book that will feel like it’s ripped my heart out, caused me to sob, and then put me back together in the end. Every. Single. Emotion. That is what this book did to me. I felt the highs and lows of every part of Willa and Jackson. When ‘Hearts and Thorns’ hit my kindle, I put work aside and dove right in. I’ve been waiting for Willa and Jackson’s story since Peggy and Dash’s book and this book surpassed every one of my expectations. I didn’t expect their road to happiness would be rainbows and butterflies, but I wasn’t prepared for everything that their journey entailed.This story was heart and gut-wrenching at the same time. You immediately know that you will be rooting for Willa and Jackson, but the odds are stacked against them from the beginning. Obstacles that most in relationships face, seem to be tenfold for them. To watch them navigate through not only life but also relationships was amazing. Ella has a way with words, that’s really all I can say. She has such a way of drawing the reader in and you can’t help but feel everything her characters feel. The loss, the heartbreak, and the love that I felt while reading this book is something, I don’t think I’ll be able to forget. I discovered Ella Fields at the beginning of this year, and she is now an author that I know will give me a book that I’ll fall in love with, and that is exactly what happened with this book. Trust me, you need this book in your life.

To be clear, this book deserves all 5 stars I’m giving it. However, potential readers should know that “lovers to enemies” isn’t the full arc. It might’ve been naive of me to think that it would be, but just in case there’s anyone else like me, who gets a bit frustrated with characters who seem to make the same mistakes again and again, maybe skip this one. But if you’re not like me, then I’ll say that this book is very well written with a compelling storyline and characters! Ella Fields pulls at your heartstrings a few times over the course of the book, leaving you (probably) teary eyed.

A great way to shatter and put hearts back together again! This was an amazing books! I love the characters and stories of this group of books. Loved the change with the years and great HEA. Read this book in one day. Definitely recommend reading all the books in this series in order. Not required to read this book but a great way to bring all the story lines together.

This book and this entire series just made my heart blow up. It was a different kind of pain with each novel. This one made me angry on levels I can't explain while reading fiction. I am a grudge holder and while I know that is not a positive trait, it is what it is.I can forgive Jackson for being the worlds biggest idiot. I mean take some responsibility for the whole fiasco. I can forgive Willa for being weak because young love can make you whimpering puddle of goo. But, I can't forgive Health and Victoria. Kids are kids and bad decisions are part of growing up, but as parents to so completely dismiss your children, HE!L NO!This story gutted me. I'm not over it. As my son just said, " mom it's not real." I just gave him the side eye and decided to day drink. 😬 One thing I can say with certainty, this author always works me into high emotion. She will always be a gold standard! I highly recommend this book and series.

This relationship was skin-crawling bad and never got better. The male MC was constantly manipulative, emotionally and often physically violent, and just hateful & hyper-controlling & always isolating the female MC. This is beyond bullying into domestic violence territory. And the female MC just Keeps Taking The Abuse, again and again and again, just crying and then crawling back to him. It's like they're a giant toxic superfund site. Zero attempt at being healthy, and the brief glimpse of good therapy fizzled out. The eventual arc resolution & justifications were completely inadequate & unrealistic - unless the male MC was in a wish-fulfillment coma dream.Hated this book and how it developed the couple's very challenging arc that we'd initially seen in the previous 2 books. Book 2 was fantastic! How did this one happen?? Skip it.

This is Ella Fields at her best! I fell in love with this group from the first book and each book just gets better and better. I didn't think I would love another couple more than Lars and Daphne and once again I am proven wrong. Willa and Jackson's story is edgy, full of angst and so much heart. What do you do when your best friend your one constant becomes more but you have to hide your feelings from everyone especially your parents. There are so many secrets and betrayals in this book that I was at the edge of my seat. I thought I was going to have a heart attack at the end of part 1. The way that Ella brought these two full circle is nothing short of amazing and I was rooting for Willa and Jackson till the very end. I'm just sad that there isn't more of their story. This was an anticipated read for me and it was worth the all nighter I did staying up reading this book.

I absolutely loved this book, it completely tore me apart, before putting me back together again!! I felt for Willa every step of the way, at points (Jackson’s graduation day) the way it is written you can’t help but experience that raw pain along with her and I cried along with her, and my heart aches for Todd too, and Jackson, oh there were times when I wanted to throw my kindle I was so angry at him, thank heavens for a HEA!My only problem with this book, and the reason I gave it 4.5 stars, is the use of the ‘C’ word. I have read a few books where it has been used as a sexual term and I just don’t think it is necessary, it makes me cringe and can spoil a great steamy scene, however I do appreciate this is just my personal preference.This is now the 3rd book of Ella’s that I have read and It definitely won’t be the last, she has quickly become a firm favourite of mine!

Wow this book made me ugly cry so much. My heart broke for both Willa and Jackson, they were both so stubborn and reckless but loved each other so hard. Their story was hard but truly amazing to read.

I’ve read every one of her books and they’re fantastic . This one frustrated me to no end. I just wanted to slap Jackson. Really....How could he not see reason. But when you read the emails you can hear his pain. Must read. Fantastic.

This is a beautifully written flawless which had me totally enthralled throughout this riveting tale. This is an emotional rollercoaster journey throughout and I highly recommend for all readers.

I loved this story. My emotions feel like they've been on a roller coaster. The characters were amazing and I can't wait to read more from this author.
