A Great Training Resource for Learning to Read Well
This is a book about reading well. The book as a whole is helpful and definitely worth reading. Those wanting to learn how to track and analyze argument sin nonfiction will find this book helpful. Those interested in fiction and poetry will find much help in reading, understanding, and enjoying these art forms. Sire is a great teacher, he uses many excellent examples, and he is always clear in explaining why it matters. For my brief review on this book and most of the books out there on Christianity and the arts, see: theologyforreallife.com/artsbooks

Nice review on reading well.
James Sire has done an admirable job with this introductory book on reading well. Before I read this book I thought poetry was created by evil spirits to torture the righteous. Now at least I realize God has a hand in poetry as well. His listings of useful books on various topics can be very helpful.

Very Insightful
I love the book because it answered the questions i had about reading. I read to get through a book, not for its insights. I figure i will pick up the insights along the way. this book taught me how to be more reflective and understand the structures of writing so that I can have better grip on what I am reading.

Great book! I assigned it to my 10th grader ...
Great book! I assigned it to my 10th grader and we both found it helpful! It's really about seeing the worldview of an author... Not literally reading slowly.

Awesome book, very helpful!
All my years in school taught me to read quickly to digest the information and then move on to the next this. This book was such a great resource for me to learn to slow down and read for greater comprehension of everything happening in a text. I'd certainly recommend it for others!

Accessible and pleasant to read
I've assigned this book to my students instead of Adler's more famous "How to Read a Book". This one is a good alternative because it's shorter and a lot more readable, but tells you mostly the same thing: take time to read if you want to really understand.
