At last, a fleet game that plays well solo too...
...and I don't mean Han Solo either. The fleet actions that are possible from the starter box are interesting and often exciting, and even with only three small-to-medium ships, the epic feel of Star Wars is portrayed with amazing success. Gameplay is quick and smooth, and the rules easy to pick up while maintaining a good level of depth. Model quality is excellent and the playing aids are absolutely brilliant. No book keeping is required either. Had this game been released 15 years ago, the playing area would have been cluttered with sheets of paper and pens of various colours! Fantasy Flight has some real design geniuses working for them at the moment.Solo play is always important to me, and as a former hardcore board war gamer, brought up on Panzer Blitz and Advanced Squad Leader, I'd started to give up on being able to play games in the solo war gamer style. Star Wars Armada's lack of book keeping and limited hidden order feature means that it's much easier to maintain control of the game without being overwhelmed by paperwork (SFB, anyone?), and I found myself much more engaged with the tactics and theme throughout several back-to-back solo battles. The quality of the gameplay is very similar to a satisfying Star Fleet Battles match too.I've already ordered a second core set and additional ships from the First Wave expansions to expand the scale of the battles, and already the Second Wave's huge starships are looming on the horizon. Presumably the new movie will provide new ships for the Third Wave. Let's hope so!If anyone has any solo gaming questions about Star Wars Armada, feel free to ask.

Brilliant ship.
This is one of my favourite ships in star wars. So glad they actually brought a legends ships into cannon(from Truce of Bakura a top notch book!!) Really good ship just keep your fighters near it so you can easy reposition.

The Opposite approach for the Empire
Any Star Wars fan is well aware that the Empire favours ships with turbo lasers over large star fighter bays, but there is an exception, and this is it. The Quasar aka Light Carrier is a great addition to get Star fighters to action in Star Wars Armada. This is a great model, accurate, beautiful and generally well painted for table top use or even just to form part of a fleet collection. The downside and why I can't put this as 5 stars is that sadly Atomic Mass Games whom got the SW Armada game from Fantasy Flight Games, no longer produces either new products or now existing products.

This is not a disappointment. The ships are excellently painted and the components ...
I am a big fan of Fantasy Flight games and their Star Wars lines. This is not a disappointment. The ships are excellently painted and the components are of a very high quality. The rules are simple enough to get to grips with and yet there is enough depth here to keep you coming back.Even with only 3 main ships included there is plenty of replay value but don't expect this to function as a stand alone game. It is very much a starter set.

A-maze.
Yes, you do need to have at least 2 core sets to have a proper game (but you also need to have 2 people). Yes, it is expensive, but that depends on the frame of reference. Compared to Warhammer it's really not that much. It's ridiculous to criticise it for its price alone. The question is, is it worth it. The game mechanic is so much fun, hugely exciting and 'realistic'. The complexity is amazing. Perfect for a lazy afternoon with a fellow star wars geek.

Was not disappointed. Good expansion
Part of a game, when I bought it I thought it was part of a game. Was not disappointed.Good expansion, great model and great quality cards as usual for fantasy flight, thinking of getting a second of these.I don't usually get a chance to play, but the quality of all the minutures from star wars armada and x wing make them good display pieces regardless.
