Defective lid and latch design
This case is sturdy, with a solid feel and reinforced corners, and it looks very nice. I really wanted to like this case. Unfortunately, it has one serious defect that renders it unusable, and one minor defect that makes it annoying. The lid opens to about a 95-degree angle (i.e., a little past a right angle) - see photo #1. In that position, the lid just kind of dangles open like a clamshell. It cannot be opened to lay flat. Also, the lid cannot be locked into place when open. Some of the comments suggest that the top can be removed. This is false - the hinges that couple the lid to the base are held in place by welded plates on both the lid and the base - see photo #2. There is absolutely no way to remove the lid. This design creates several serious issues:1) The weight of the lid, when propped open, puts strain on the hinges and the welded plates. Eventually, something is going to break.2) The lid is not as heavy as the base, but it still has some heft. As a result, the lid, when propped open, is top-heavy. If it falls over, or if someone bumps into it, the whole case will tip over and possibly toss your gear into the air.3) The lid does not lock into place. If someone bumps into it from the back, it's going to slam shut. And the heft of the lid could cause some serious damage to gear, or even worse, hands - especially if they get pinched between the solid metal rails of the lid and base.4) Frankly, it just looks incredibly stupid and awkward.I have no idea why anyone would design a case like this. The case is functionally unusable when it is propped open for these reasons, which kind of defeats the purpose of a nice foam pick-and-place arrangement.Bonus: The latch on the front of the case is positioned right in the middle of the handle. Also, the latch is so long that it collides with the handle. As a result, latching and unlatching this case requires working the latch around the handle, which is frustrating and clumsy - and totally unnecessary! If the latch were like 1" shorter, this would not be a problem at all. Again, just bad design.
