Valterra T1001VPM Bladex 1-1/2" Waste Valve Body with Metal Handle
Excellent quality, very easy to install. HOWEVER, one reviewer said to leave the waste valve open over night with a bucket underneath to allow as much "stuff" to drain out BEFORE replacing the valve. I want to thank that reviewer, this was great advice and saved me a lot of mess and trouble! I lubricated the valve shaft and seals with a silicone lubricant before installing to keep it from sticking. Some purchasers complained that when the seals were not installed, you could see light through the valve. This is by design, not a defect and the valve works as designed with the seals installed.

Valterra Grey tank valve
I'm a newbie to my trailer and bit by bit I learn how to fix things that need it or my desire to change. This valterra gray tank valve was a direct replacement for what was already installed. I noticed leaking when the outside cap would be removed, so I knew I had a very minor leak. I viewed a few different videos and thought this is could do. Well 5-8 attempts and 3 days later I was successful. It feels durable and functions well by keeping discarded water at bay. I would recommend this as a replacement of the gray tank valve. Getting the rubber seals seated was the most difficult for me, but now I know how to do it if it should happen again. As a side note if you replace the valve and it still leaks the rubber seals will go back to shape if you sit them in the sun for a bit. I actually purchased additional seals just in case they got a tear. So I have extra parts that is always useful. I didn't take pictures but I satisfied it doesn't leak. I did a rubber seal change on the black tank while I was doing the gray tank. Just in case. I'm pleased with this replacement and would recommend.

Replaced original Valterra with Valterra
Very easy to swap out. Replaced the existing Valterra with this. Came with all needed hardware. Have already been on two trips and there’s no more leakage of gray water. Slides open/closed very smoothly and easy. Will buy same brand when it’s time to do the black.

I'll rate the product 5 stars as it seems to be good quality. The previous Valterra valves have been on the RV for 16 years. The installation should be very easy but that depends completely on the design of your RV. The valves in my rig are in a enclosed heated compartment. The piping is rigidly held in place at all points. The 3" valve installed OK with help from a friend doing his best to separate the pipes so as to facilitate me slipping the new valve in place. I thought the 1 1/2" valve was also successfully installed at the same time using the same method as both held water overnight with no leaks at all. I was very surprised to find the 1 1/2" valve leaked as I emptied the tanks. The outer seal folded over during the installation allowing the leak when emptying. I just mention this as a suggestion to checks for leaks even while emptying before declaring the job a success. I had already replaced the 5' long compartment bottom sheet metal panel assuming all was good and now am redoing the job. I will be checking for leaks when emptying before putting that panel back on this time!
