great children’s book
the prose is written in rhyme so good for the young child it fosters reading and pre reading skills, the pictures are warm and comforting, they portray the story, but do not tell the story it must be read. it is fun to read both for the reader and the listener.

great story no matter how many times it is read
My grandson is four and I bought this book for him because over the years and some moves we lost the copy I had for his dad. A great story for kids and fun for the adult who reads it as well!

A book that has a long history of memories....
Back in 1992, I was reading this book with my son, and my wife snuck up and took a picture of us. That picture was eventually filed away and forgotted until about 3 months ago. At that time, we had a great idea, the chair we were sitting in was sitting in the living room and now I had a grandson, the same age as my son was, I simply needed to find this book. Well, after the kids grow up and several yard sales later, the book was no where to be found....therefore, a quick order on Amazon and 3 days later I have the book. That weekend, my grandson is over and he has never heard the story, but he is three years old and anything with trains has to be great...so, 19 years later, it is my grandson and I reading the same book and my wife gets out the camera and takes a picture. We reframed the original and put the new picture next to it (literally the same angle, same chair, same adult and same book) and gave this to my son and daughter-in-law this Christmas and it was clearly their least expensive, but most liked gift. Thanks, Amazon !

GREAT story!!!!!
My grandchildren absolutely love and want it played repeatedly. I am so disappointed that I can't find more Bill Peet books that come with CDs like this!! The children are learning to listen to the cd and follow along with the book - so good in this ridiculous digital age.

DIfferent than today’s standards
This was bought to replace a missing copy from years ago. It’s actually a pretty depressing story by today’s standards about the caboose being depressed and isolated, so read it first before giving it to your young child and see if you like it first. I’m keeping this for later years, if I decide to give it as a gift.

Phenomenal Book
Absolutely a great book for a kid, especially if the child LOVES trains. It is great to read to a child just about to start reading to get the child excited about reading. It has great pictures, the art is great. Then the child can read it themselves by the time they are 6. Great book all around.
