Cyrus the Unsinkable Sea Serpent

Great Author and Book
Chester The Wordly Pig is a great story for kids to read at elementary ages about 7 -10 years. It's a fun book for adults to read to young children. Bill Peet was an outstanding writer and artist. He did amazing work for Disney, too.

Bill Peet's books are a Timeless Treasure
It is sad his books are fading into obscurity. His name should be as familiar as Dr. Seuss!I first encountered his work, with his book The Wump World, when I was in elementary school. It left a deep impact on my impressionable young mind. Fast forward to decades later and, with the birth of my daughter, I reacquainted myself with the author of the Wump World and in doing so discovered the plethora of other works by him. They're all charming in their way and all highly recommended, if you can find them. But, a few really stood out to me as being especially exemplary and this is one. A great tale, charming from beginning to end, highly recommended. In fact, I would strongly encourage buying as many of his books as you can before they go out of print, perhaps forever.I would love to see an omnibus collection, maybe in two or three volumes, of all his more than 30 children's books. They are a treasure and I am thankful to have shared them as bedtime stories to my daughter. Thank you Bill Peet!

Love this author
Mom/grandma, who has read all the Bill Pete’s books to their little ones!Love the creative, imperfect, relatable characters that teach good ideas and behaviors. But the art work is the star! It alone draws the child’s attention.Stories are a bit longer then some but it’s easy to leave a few words/phrases out without losing anything of the story.Would/do recommend these every chance I get❣️

Can't miss with Bill Peet
I've been a mother-fan of Bill Peet for 30+ years. My children grew up on them and now my grandchildren. What I like best is the life lessons and morals that are cleverly taught. The language is great fun but also stretches the vocabulary of the growing child. The stories are captivating and everybody (including the parent) can recognize some of the shortcomings in themselves. But the stories alway end with a happy lesson learned and much forgiveness all around. The art work is fantastic. I love reading to children and these books offer plenty of scope for expression and drama, which children love. Bill Pete spent 37 years working for Disney on all the animated greats from Snow White and Bambi all the way up to 101 Dalmations and everything in between. He also worked on the scripts for these movies and after reading even one of his books you can see that same incredible talent. These books should be in every home. After checking them out from the library numerous times over the many years my children were growing up, I am finally starting my own library for my grandchildren. Many of my paper-back versions fell completely apart (with not that much use) so this time it'll be all hard cover.

Good story, but a warning to parents
Parents should be aware that this book uses the word "sissy" as an insult for weakling. Although this may not be a problem for everyone, I expect it will be a problem for some. "How Droofus The Dragon Lost His Head" is a great dragon centered alternative from the same author.Otherwise this is a very fun story :)

A Kid's Review
In Cyrus the Unsinkable Sea Serpent, I love the way Bill Peet does the pictures so much that I drew a copy of the ship called the Primrose sailing smoothly on the sea. I also drew the sea storm and the picture of the pirate mast and the cargo scattered around on top of the water. Cyrus is a memorable character, because he has a good heart and wants to help out the Primrose. He ends up saving it from a storm and the pirates. He hauls the Primrose to shore, and the whole crew gathers on a huge rock and cheers for him. This is a book filled with the fun adventures of Cyrus.

Another great children's book by Bill Peet
I just love almost all of the Bill Peet books and this is no exception. Great drawings, great story. A lot to look at on each page which makes it great for reading aloud to young kids. Many kids books just don't have enough content to make it a worthwhile end-of-evening event before bed but this and most other Bill Peet books have just the right amount of detail on each page. I've purchased maybe 20 of these for kids of my friends that I give at birth or when young.

Some of the best kids books available.
Bill Peet is one of my favorite kids book authors. I read these as a kid, got them for my kids, nieces and nephews and have put away a set for for my grandchildren someday. The stories and characters are always well designed and draw kids in. The illustrations are bright and colorful while still being somewhat simplistic giving them a lovable cartoon appearance. The stories have great moral and life lessons told in a fun way. These stories have stood the test of time and have been loved by many in my family

Bill Peet and his wonderful books
We read books by Bill Peet to our children, mainly borrowed from the library. Now we have grandchildren, we are buying them. We love the stories, the pictures, and their gentle and unobtrusive guide to life.

Had this when I was 4 or 5!
Great book and a good story for kids. Had this read to me in the early 80s so great to find it for my own kids.

Nice story
For this for my son Cyrus! It's a lovely book, some bigger and old fashioned words in it for the age I think but not a bad thing as it provides the opportunity to widen the vocabulary and look up new words...

Great Mini-Biography
I brought this as I am studying Bill Peet for my Dissertation, and it was regarded as his mini biography. It's a really sweet story as well as beautifully illustrated by the the great man himself. It can be admired as a simple children's story as well as one thick with allusions to Bill Peet's rise through Disney and to becoming a storybook illustrator. I thoroughly recommend it.

A little long for a quick bedtime read.
Cyrus is quite loveable, but my grandson had a hard time relating to the old ships from the 1800’s & relying on wind to travel. At times the author writes very British that requires a LOT of explaining to young kids.
