The Alphabet's Alphabet

Very clever and imaginative
I bought this for an 7-year old who has always been interested in letters and books having to do with the alphabet. I first learned about this book in a magazine article and was all set to order it, but some of the mixed and negative reviews on Amazon gave me pause. I took a chance and decided to purchase it and am very glad I did. My son LOVES the book and my my husband and I enjoy looking at it too. It is an entertaining, creative tale about how the letters of the alphabet resemble one another. The illustrations really make the book shine. While the title of the book has the word alphabet in it, this book is not meant to teach your child the alphabet or help him/her learn his/her letters. It is geared toward children who already have mastery in this area and are looking for a funny, inventive take on the ABCs. I highly recommend it.

3 yr old loves it
I thought this might be confusing for my 3 year old, but he is fascinated by it. This is one of his favorite books. I like how the book explains letters in the alphabet kind of look alike the way family members look alike. I think it might be helping him remember how to draw the letters as well...or at least enjoy some drawing hacks. The illustrations are great and each page can turn into its own unique story. I have enjoyed seeing my son’s imagination take off reading this book. We have had fun following along with the book making play dough replicas of the letters as well. My only complaint is that the binding has come loose. This one does get heavy use, but I would have expected it to hold up a little better.

A wondrously imaginative alphabet book for all ages!
This is so clever and intricate that my eleven-year-old has spent weeks perusing it, but so colorful and intuitive that a three year old also found it a delight. If only all kids' books were like this!

So fun
Such a fun little book. I tecimmend it for older kids who will get the humor of how the letters are related in funny ways. My 3 year old just likes the colorful pictures.

"...challenging their brains is a bonus!"
I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. My thoughts and opinions are my own. Any quotes I use are from an unpublished copy and may not reflect the finished product. The Alphabet's Alphabet was an enjoyable read, although the letter comparisons did take some getting used to! I'm not sure if it was the wording or the illustrations themselves, but I had to repeatedly tell myself that it was actually this letter that only looked like that letter. Was that confusing? Let me show you an example and try to better explain myself!*please see original blog post for imageThe book starts at the beginning of the Alphabet... sort of. An A is actually an H; a B is really a D. It makes sense, but for some reason my brain kept trying to twist them around! I think that's what the author and illustrator were trying to do? Make people see something that wasn't really there, like an optical illusion? If that was what they were trying to do, it was really well done! I also think the kids enjoyed the mental gymnastics. I was verbally telling them one thing, while their eyes showed them something else. We had to stop and talk about each page before moving on, which did make this a slower read, but we didn't mind! I love when books really grab their attention and hold it - - challenging their brains is a bonus! If you like books with a unique concept, definitely check out The Alphabet's Alphabet. I'm 31-years old and still struggled to immediately make sense of each page! I'm sure this is a book we will re-read many times, so maybe the repetition will make the letters easier to identify in the future. ;)

Not your average alphabet book
Bought this based off a recommendation from someone on Instagram. Super cute and unique take on learning the alphabet.

Cute, but take some caution
Cute read aloud storyline, but use caution. Studying and looking at the pictures may be not be ideal for struggling readers, especially those who have visual confusions (problems with the way they see letters and words coming together) and phonics challenges.
