Good; One Big Drawback if You're Teaching in the U.S.
I teach adult-level ELL classes. I like several things about this book and have one criticism.PROS:1. The topics are relevant to an English learner: cars, business, eating out, travel, etc.2. The activities are very well organized, while also giving plenty of opportunity for individualization.CON:This may not be a "con", per se, but for AMERICAN English users, be aware this is written in British English and you will have to either re-copy handouts and/or teach the difference between British and American spellings and vocabulary, for example: humour/humor, "boot" for trunk, tyre/tire, practise/ practice, "petrol"/gas, etc. This is a moderate annoyance because it means you'll have to go through each page and re-write words before you copy the page.I wish I had known this before I purchased this book, nevertheless, the organization, content, and activities are so well thought-out, that it's probably worth it to do that. I'll definitely use the ideas in this book.

Most Interesting Dialogue EVER!
This is such an excellent book to help the teacher prepare for conversations with beginning ESL students! I love to use this in my classes so much because I always get such a surprise reaction from my students as they relate to the questions on a personal level and bring into the total discussion such rich experiences. It's a great way to get to know your students better, and also a wonderful way to get them to relax and speak their feelings and thoughts in a second language from their own native tongue. I love the way these exercises help ease the flow into the lesson more freely and with more personality and enjoyment for the whole class! Thank you for these little "Breaking the Ice" starters. They're GREAT!!!

Could Lead to Brief Responses Rather than Conversation
The instructions suggest that students work in groups with teacher help. By necessity, if the students are working in groups, teacher help will be intermittent. However, I think that the questions often require brief answers and consequently don't lead to conversation without extensive teacher guidance. Consequently, I think this would work best with a teacher guiding a full group. Examples of questions from the section entitled "The future":"Would you like to live for 1000 years?" "If it [was} (Should be were. Condition contrary to fact.) possible to time travel, which time period would you like to visit?" "Do you think people will work more or less in the future?" "Are you optimistic or pessimistic about the future?"It seems to me that a great many of these questions require extensive teacher follow up to expand student answers.

Nice layout
I like the layout of this book. I've just gotten it, but I'm using it with one of my private students. An intermediate level HS student, and it went well. A little grammar with lots of questions . . . perfect for what I need.

Targeted resource that makes common sense
I am impressed with having the vocabulary lists to help prepare people for meaningful conversations. I will use this in a camp setting and know that the campers will be happy that the conversations can be targeted to them. This author has resources for all ages by having different activities for each age. It is wonderful to have such a targeted resource! Thanks!

Great for small group activities with high intermediate to advanced learners
Great questions! I print and cut out the cards, and then give a set to small groups of 3-4 students to discuss. The questions are perfect for my high intermediate to advanced ESL class.

Good, but...
The premise of the book is good. The layout, though, has confused a lot of my ESL students. It does help get conversations going, but not on a large scale for most of my students. I like the quotes and the variety of questions offered on each topic. The biggest complaint I have about this book is that there are editing errors here and there throughout the text. It's meant to teach English, so it should be edited properly.

Very good
I use it for my lessons with adults and teens. It is okay for all levels because you can adapt it, I sometimes use it just for inspiration. There are questions based on different themes and tenses as well, which are very useful.
