Not exactly for beginners but very helpful
I especially liked the number of idiomatic expressions used. Portuguese isn't quite as bad as French but it still has a lot of them. The glossary is okay; I liked having the English version follow the Portuguese a paragraph at a time. Good to have once you've made it through the grammar and are working on vocabulary and fluency.

Good introduction to the Portuguese language!
They are simple short stories with the key words in bold interface and you can see them in context. They also have s summary of the story after each one along with vocabulary list and question and answers to test and guide your understanding of the material. The stories were interesting and not difficult and I definitely learned from them. I will go through it again to reinforce what I learned but am happy with it.

Excellent tool
This is a diferent book it is interesting how it approaches a new language I like it despite that you should have a little bit of comprehension of the Portuguese, also is good though have the English language included.

Alright but there are some problems
The reader is decent enough but be aware of the following:(1) The Portuguese is continental, not Brazilian. So, you'll learn a lot of words peculiar to European Portuguese.(2) There are a LOT of words in each story not listed in the summarized vocabulary at the end of each lesson. Be prepared to do a lot of flipping through dictionaries.(3) The choice of vocabulary could have been more carefully thought out. I don't really foresee my needing the Portuguese for "mole," "linnet," "glow-worm" and a lot of other infrequently used words in daily conversation.

Good practice material
Learning a language is much easier through absorption than by rote so I am really happy to have bought this book which also gives me exercises to do at the end of each story.

The storytelling approachi
I like this book because it uses the storytelling approach. Students remember the story vocabularly effortlessly. These stories use informal day-to-day language There are 11 stories in portuguese and english with summaries, vocabulary list, Q&A. to test your understanding. I am enjoying using this book to learn portuguese.
