David Busch’s Canon Powershot G15 Guide to Digital Photography (David Busch's Digital Photography Guides)

The Canon G15 does not come with a detailed, hard copy manual. I was frustrated trying to use the provided CD with its pdf manual. For the cost of printing out the 300 page owners manual, I was able to buy the Busch manual which - by the way - is better organized and written than the black and white Canon "manual". When I am in the field, I hate to try to get my immediate questions answered by looking stuff up on a laptop or iPad. This manual does a fine job of explaining the hows and whys of the G15 controls and software. It is entertaining, fun to read and very helpful in learning how to use the many attributes of the powerful G15 camera. It will help me to make the most of the amazing G15. Worth the money. Too bad Canon does not provide a manual like this one with the camera.

I chose this rating because the book totally met my expectations. It contains much useful information—not just a rehash of the camera manual. The manual that came with the camera is on a CD and must be viewed on my computer or printed out; neither of which is satisfactory or convenient. To have a printed book that is easily accessed is far preferable. The book is designed so that you can jump in according to your experience and familiarity with Canon Powershot cameras skipping chapters which you do not need. I ordered my G15 less than a week before I had to put it to use in a directory project. With the help of David's guide I was able to have a successful first shoot with my G15.

A well laid out coverage of the Canon G15. I used it to walk through all of the WOW!! features of my new toy and found it very handy. That said, I purchased the book before the camera arrived. When the camera came, there was an extensive and very detailed users manual on the enclosed disk that is really excellent.My recommendation - check the users PDF manual first (it is also available for download) and then purchase this book if you need a more user friendly version.

It really goes into a lot of detail and even mentions how to use photoshop for certain techniques. Has very nice photographs as examples as well. I am only a hobbyist and so have not slogged through the entire book. I felt like Alice in Wonderland when I got my first canon and this writer helped me with my G12 and now my G15. It's all I wish I knew but need a book to know. In the preface he states he starts out believing you know very little and than goes to more advanced use of the camera. I think that is a great idea, especially for someone like me...even though I know more than I did when I got my G12!

This book has been critical in refreshing my knowledge about all the things I used to know when I started dabbling in photography with a 35 mm film camera years ago, as well as providing new information on how to shoot pictures for the most impact using this awesome digital camera. I seemed to have had a 20 year blackout period when I was only using the point and shoot cameras - with results never entirely to my liking. The brain synapses had definitely faded on the technical aspects of using a manual camera. If you find yourself venturing back to wanting to manually use a camera, or have never used a digital camera - there is much more in this book than you can learn from the materials that are provided with the camera and I recommend it highly.

Don't get me started on the "instruction manuals" that come with a lot of electronic equipment (or in this case virtual instruction manual on a dvd). This book fills the function of an instruction manual and then goes way further. Step by step instructions on just about anything that you might want to do with this camera and how to do it on THIS camera. That's the nice part... there are a lot of things that can be done on many different cameras, but the menus/buttons/functions are not always the same. I've had to tell people more than once that I know how to do something on my camera and I'm sure that their camera will do it too, but that I can't see it on theirs. This book, specific to the G15, shows you how to do things on your camera. If you buy, I hope you are as pleased with it as I was and thanks for taking the time to read my review.

Nice, comprehensive book written spherically for the Canon G15. Lots of pictures and examples. If you are a beginner you'll find it very helpful.

I have owned two Canons in this series, and have worked with the official Canon manuals. The difficulty of using those manuals quickly and efficiently is what drove me to buy this book. And this book is a great combination of useful info about using the Canon Powershot G15 and a good tutor in digital photography. Toss the manual in a bookcase, and travel with this informative text.

This book is a thorough guide to Canon's Powershot G15, covering all its features and modes and delving into some more advanced photography topics. It's very well illustrated, with numerous screen shots of the camera controls and displays and plenty of example photos relevant to the large number of topics covered.The book is especially valuable due to Canon's skimpy documentation. In particular, only a very basic "getting started" guide is provided in hard copy, the full owners manual is available only as a .pdf. While everything is described in the .pdf, it's very cryptic and can be somewhat confusing, especially given the vast array of settings and modes available for this camera.I heartily recommend this book to any owners of the G15 regardless of their experience level. It's well written, clear and comprehensive. Two thumbs up!

i have had the pleasure of buying other guides by this author.certainly not disappointed by this one either.well written and logically laid out .functions available and accessability explained clearly and in plain english.(unlike the user manual supplied). this not a pocket sized book but is an excellent accessory to the G15.i would recommend this book to any G15 owner and im sure you wont be disappointed

El libro está muy bien. A diferencia del manual te dice el por qué de las cosas. Casi que se puede utilizar este libro también como una introducción a la fotografía (yo no tenía ni idea de cómo hacer fotos en manual o semiautomático, y he entendido todo perfectamente), por supuesto aplicado en detalle a la G15.Una vez leído el libro (y es un alivio poder leerlo en cualquier sitio, y no frente al ordenador, como ocurre con el manual), no es necesario acudir al manual de la G15. Sólamente he tenido que consultar en el manual algunas cosas del modo AUTO, ya que el autor del libro se centra completamente en los modos manual, P, Av y Tv.

great book, easy to use and very helpful

I read almost every pages of the book. Not only does David explains all features of the camera but he does it in a way that you can understand. Lots of pictures (of the camera or other shots) to assist in the learnings. This book is super useful to further enjoy my G15!
