Okuma Coronado CDX Lightweight Baitfeeder Saltwater Reel

I was looking for an alternative reel for Catfish fishing in the UK. Everyone recommends their own choice as being the best but I wanted to explore other options. The build quality of these is superb. As a quality engineer I appreciate the amount of design that has gone into this reel. It ticks all of the boxes for Catfish fishing - tough drag which is silky smooth from start up, oversize bail arm wire, superb line lay (adjustable with shims behind the spool), large capacity spool which takes more than enough line, really smooth action of the bait runner. Yes, it is quite large but that is to be expected. They sit solidly on my rods (I have 3!) and the foot has no flex at all. In summary - There are no bad points to these reels, the American sport fishing guys would soon tell you if there was! All the other positive reviews can be taken as genuine in my mind as I agree with them all. If time changes my opinion I will revisit this review but don’t hold your breath! I don’t see any problems anytime soon. If you want a bullet proof reel at a reasonable price you will not be disappointed. As another review says - if you want one, get one! Update-09/01:2024 had catfish to 76lbs 7ozs and reels behaving perfectly! So much power and solid gearing I still love’ em!

I bought the 8000 to 1st time surf fish. It looked large at first glance. It turned out to be perfect. I landed several 3-4' sharks with no problem. I hooked 2 giants that couldn't be landed. One started pulling like a truck driving away. The drag was screaming! I tightened the drag, so he wouldn't rob all of my line. He broke 80 lb braid. The other took off the same way, and broke my metal leader. The reel performed perfectly. The baitfeeder was flawless and the reel is smooth. The super strong handle provided great leverage and allowed me to quickly reel long casts in. The 8000 reel isnt lightweight, but no reel this big and well made would be. If you want a big, solid, smooth, sturdy beast of a reel at a fair price, this is recommended. It is solid!

Used it for a 9 foot beach rod. First baitfeeder reel for me. Would get another one if it is on sale. Using circle hooks on my rigs with this setup. Wonder if it's ok to use this for boat fishing. Might bring it along for an upcoming trip.

Bastante fuerza y muy resistente aunque es un poco pesado el carrete es muy cómodo de usar, le puse 30 lbs de linea trenzada y le entraron los 300mts. Excelente para capturas grandes con carnada viva
