Convenient and Accurate Body Tape Measure, with Minor Lock Pin Quirks
I purchased the Body Measuring Tape 60 inch (Black, Lock Pin and Push Button Retract) about three weeks ago to track my fitness progress, as I’ve been doing more gardening and home workouts to stay active alongside my 10- and 11-year-old nephew and son. With a focus on health after using my elbow brace for gardening strain, I wanted an easy-to-use tape measure to monitor my waist, arms, and thighs. After using it daily for measurements, here’s my detailed take on its performance, including pros, cons, and tips for other buyers. How I Used ItThe tape measure is 60 inches (150 cm) long, dual-sided (inches and cm), and made of fiberglass with a 2-inch-wide ABS plastic housing. I used it to measure my waist (36 inches), biceps (14 inches), and thighs (22 inches) before and after workouts, wrapping the tape around each body part, inserting the pin into the lock slot, and pressing the retract button to tighten. I’ve measured myself solo about 15 times, storing it in my gym bag alongside my men’s active T-shirts. I also tested it for measuring my cat’s pet carrier (curved surface) and cleaned it with a damp cloth to check durability.ProsEasy One-Hand Use: The lock pin and push-button retract make it simple to measure solo. I wrap the tape around my waist, clip the pin, and press the button to tighten, reading the measurement without needing a second person, as praised in reviews for its user-friendly design.Clear and Dual-Sided: The tape has large, black-printed numbers on a white background (inches on one side, cm on the reverse), making it easy to read even in dim light. The 60-inch length covers all body parts, from neck to thighs.Accurate Measurements: I cross-checked measurements with a soft tailor’s tape (included as a bonus), and they matched within 0.1 inches, confirming accuracy for tracking fitness progress. The 2-inch housing is accounted for in the design, so you read the correct value directly.Portable and Durable: The compact (9 x 5 x 2 cm) and lightweight (59 grams) design fits easily in my gym bag. The fiberglass tape is soft yet sturdy, with no stretching or fraying after repeated use, and the ABS housing feels solid.Versatile Use: Beyond body measurements, I used it to measure my cat’s carrier (24 inches wide) and fabric for a gardening apron, showing its utility for household tasks, as noted by users for sewing and crafting.ConsLoose Lock Pin: The pin sometimes slips out before I tighten the tape, especially if I don’t hold the housing button-side up, a common issue in reviews. It’s manageable with practice but can be frustrating initially.Inconsistent Retraction: The tape occasionally jams when retracting, requiring a gentle tug to free it. Some users reported similar retraction issues, suggesting the spring could be stronger. No Storage Case: Unlike some competitors (e.g., REIDEA’s bonus kit), it doesn’t come with a storage pouch, so I keep it in a ziplock bag to avoid dust or damage in my gym bag.Learning Curve: It took a few tries to master the pin-lock technique (clipping and tightening correctly), as the instructions were brief. Watching a quick YouTube video helped, but clearer guidance would improve the experience.ComparisonsCompared to the REIDEA Body Measure Tape (60 inch, $10-$12), this tape has a similar lock-pin design but lacks REIDEA’s bonus mini tape and clothing measure. The Perfect Body Tape Measure (80 inch, $15) is longer and has a smoother retraction but is pricier and overkill for most body measurements. The GDMINLO Soft Tape Measure (non-retractable, $5) is cheaper but less convenient for solo use, as it lacks the lock feature. The Lytown 2-Pack (retractable + soft tape, $8) offers more value with two tapes, but its housing feels flimsier per reviews. This tape’s balance of price ($8-$10) and functionality suits my needs, but REIDEA’s kit is tempting for extras.Tips for BuyersHold Button-Side Up: To prevent the pin from slipping, keep the housing button-side up when clipping the tape, as suggested by the manual. Press and hold the retract button to tighten securely.Practice First: Test the pin-lock and retraction on a simple object (e.g., a bottle) to get the hang of it before measuring your body. This reduces errors and pin slip-outs.Store Safely: Keep it in a small pouch or bag to protect the tape from dust or bending, especially if carrying it in a gym bag or toolbox.Cross-Check Accuracy: Use the included soft ruler or another tape to verify measurements initially, as some users reported minor inconsistencies (e.g., biceps vs. waist).Who Should Buy This? This Body Measuring Tape is ideal for fitness enthusiasts, dieters, or anyone tracking body measurements (waist, arms, thighs) solo, as well as for household tasks like sewing or measuring pet gear. It’s perfect for budget-conscious buyers needing a portable, accurate tool but may frustrate those wanting a flawless lock pin or premium retraction. For advanced features (e.g., Bluetooth), consider the Slimpal Smart Tape ($20+).Overall, this tape measure has simplified my fitness tracking, letting me monitor progress with ease while gardening or working out. It’s accurate and portable, though the pin lock requires some finesse. I’m pleased with the purchase and use it alongside my active T-shirts for a complete fitness kit. If you’ve tried this or have measurement tips, share in the comments—I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Great to use, but not very durable
This measuring tape worked great. But now it's starting to tear at the plastic cylinder at the end of the tape. Once that tears completely, it will be useless. I never let it retract from a length greater than a few inches to reduce any wear and tear but it still tearing at the end. What a shame, I really like using it a lot.
