Fascinating read

An excellent look into the way lindyhop developed before the war and the attitude that people had that were the main dancers they really lived for their dance. Frankie has brought to light a lot of behind the scenes politics that that shaped the way the dance developed. A must read for anybody who loves their swing dance and had respect for Frankie as a dancer and a man.

There are a few people in this life who can really inspire - Frankie Manning is one of them. If you're an aspiring lindy hopper and have been prepared to travel, you always remember the first time Frankie teaches you. This book confirms his unique place in dance history and you can hear his voice as his story unfolds. Thousands of lindy hoppers all over the world finally have a book that answers all their non-dancing friends' questions. If they're lucky they'll also appreciate a man of skill and integrity who has never stopped wanting to share his happy dance with the world.

I'd heard a lot about Frankie having started swing dancing 4 years ago so was pleased when I found this book. Its definitely a reading rather than picture book but has some great original photos. Its great for finding out how some of the classic moves first came about.

This is a good book for everyone with a little bit of interest in the Lindy Hop dance but also in african-amercian history. Highly recommended. Very easy to read.

Every Lindy Hopper MUST read this book, and the rest of the world should too. It's a beautiful account of an unsung American hero and would be of interest to anyone who enjoys history, jazz, dance, the arts, and just a good true story.
