test drive of Moccamaster CDT-Grand
Technivorm Moccamaster CDT-GrandAfter carefully unboxing this item and the included parts, the Owner’s Manual was thoroughly read and instructions were followed. While trying to run the first batch of water through the system, the machine did not turn on although the on-off switch light was on. Consulting the manual trouble shooting section, the possible cause indicated that the thermal carafe may not be properly in place. There is a white knob that must be pushed in by the correct positioning of the carafe (pic 1). What was discovered was that this button could not be actuated by the carafe. A piece of wadded up paper was used to push the button in far enough (in conjunction with the carafe) to turn the machine on (pic 2).Technivorm Customer Service was consulted and stated that this was a defect and should be returned. The same item was re-ordered.No problems were found during the first run of water through the replacement system. Before running the first batch, the thermal carafe was pre-heated using an instant-hot-water dispenser. Midway through the brewing, the temperature was checked at the point where the water emerged from the coffee maker arm (pic 3). It was 205 degrees F. After the brewing was completed, the water inside the carafe was 184 degrees F.Subsequent brewing of several pots of coffee showed the similar temperature results along with great tasting coffee.Previously we had been using a Cuisinart drip coffee maker (with a Melitta #4 filter). We were using approximately 50-60 grams of coffee for 60 ounces of brewed coffee (the same volume as the CDT-Grand). With the CDT-Grand, the directions are to use 99 grams. The required paper filter for this machine is larger and allows for this. A taste comparison of the coffee from the two machines cannot be an apples to apples comparison because of the amount of coffee grounds used. One other slight problem encountered had to do with the small rubber feet on the bottom on the machine. A couple of these were found on our kitchen floor. We did not know what they were but set them aside knowing that we may come across the item to which they belonged. A couple days later another was found near the base of the CDT-Grand. Looking at the bottom of the machine gave the answer (pics 4 and 5). The rubber pads belonged to the CDT-Grand. Since we found more feet than could be put onto the new machine, we surmised that the extras were from the first machine we returned without knowing this. This seems to be a slight flaw. These shouldn’t fall off/out when unboxing or when setting up the new machine. A minor issue.

love this coffee pot- so glad we bit the bullet on the price and bought it.
We received this pot the next day after ordering. We don't expect to ever have to buy another coffee pot with this one. It is truly quality. This pot actually makes just a little over what a normal 12-pots do. By measuring cups its between 7-8 actually cups. No bells or fancy stuff. It just makes coffee and that's what we wanted. Makes it fast. Takes a commercial size filter.Coffee is smooth - just perfect. If you just want a coffee pot to make coffee - and make it great -if your tired of replacing coffee pots - buy this!

Fantastic coffee
This is my second one purchased. 25 years in fine dinning has given me knowledge of what a cup of coffee should be...this coffee pot makes some of the best joe I have every had. Handmade and quality machine. Most expensive coffee pot I had ever purchased and well worth it. Having a cup as I type.

Worth every penny.
Like many, we held on as long as we could to our OXO coffeemaker but after two replacements and some sad mornings waking up to no coffee, we did our homework and decided if we were going to make the switch, we had to get it right. We’ve been using the Technivorm for about three weeks now and it’s been delightful. Not only does it create the perfect cup, but it’s easy to clean and maintain and we love the confidence in the simple parts vs our last experience. The warranty helps too. Highly recommend.

Just the best
Been a huge fan of TechniVorm. This is our second unit - the first unit never died - we just moved it to another location. Our fist one we have had since 2003!
