Compass American Guides: Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks (Full-color Travel Guide) Paperback – April 15, 2014

Just returned from a 5-day vacation trip to Montana where my wife and I spent 2 days in Yellowstone and 1 day in the Grant Tetons. This handy guide was extremely helpful, and I referred to it each night before our day trips and frequently while we were in the parks to find the best scenic spots, best hiking trails, and places to eat/shop. Having a printed guide like this is indispensable when you are in areas of the park with no cell phone service.The ONLY COMPLAINT I have about this travel guide is that the font is EXTREMELY SMALL, which makes it difficult to read, especially after a long day of travel when my eyes are getting tired. Similarly, some pages have added info printed in yellow-ish ink, which is even harder to read than the black ink. Ugh.I highly recommend this practical travel guide to anyone looking to make the most of their upcoming visit to Yellowstone and Grand Teton Nat'l Parks.

I just returned from a 10 day trip to Yellowstone National Park and found this travel guide extremely useful and one of the more well-written guides I have used. The practical information on touring the park is succinct and easy to follow, and highlights all of the main areas you will want to visit along with some hidden gems about the park. The information was very accurate and you could tell the author knew exactly what he was talking about. There are also multiple very interesting side-bars on different aspects of the park that I found engaging and added intrigue to places I was visiting. I would highly recommend reading this book prior to your trip to Yellowstone and bringing it along on your journey.

I was planning on a Yellowstone trip in September, so I bought this book as a guide. I am one of those that buys such books so I have a complete understanding of where I am going as a newbie. I found the book quite valuable in trip planning. I thought I'd see Yellowstone in a weekend, but now I know I need more more time. My plans changed completely after reading this book. Now, I am going in winter, crowd-free, and I know exactly what I want to accomplish during my time there. My trip will be in December and any review at that point would be about the park rather than the book, but this book gave me a lot of focus I would not otherwise have had. There is nothing more to lose other than the price of the book.

I am used to Lonely Planet guide with tons of useful info.I barely used this guide as is wasn’t structured or didn’t contain much info at all.While traveling I realized that I had LP guide in my Kindle. That was a savior!Sorry, Fodor’s.. I am dissupointed.

I buy this book as well as the Yellowstone Treasures by Janet Chapel. I read this book a lot more than the Janet Chapple one. The maps are useful, allowing me maps to plan in advance my routes. It offers clear explanation of places to see and dine. However, I am not use to travel books that have long descriptions, paragraphs after paragraphs. In Asia, we have travel books that recommend routes and time spent, provide many highlights that are really simple and easy to read. Provide lots of useful tips on transport, shopping, dining etc., making my planning a lot more simple and efficient. Can't find any English travel book that is so simple and user friendly like the ones I use in Asia. Recommend this Fodor book for advance planning, especially for people who like to read less. The Janet Chappel one is very detailed, many text, more suitable for people who like to read into the details and plan in a very detailed manner.

We enjoyed using this on our May trip to the parks. We went before most lodges/amenities were open, and really enjoyed having this help get us around. Our only suggestion is to have Yellowstone and Teton parks separated more within the book. It would have been easier to 'open and go' when were were in each location. But overall, it's a great and we are glad we got it!

I first visited Yellowstone & Jackson Hole in 1972. I thought I knew everything about the area, and I thought I had done everything.... Well, this GREAT book changed all that! Tremendouse help! The author made some greAT SUGGESTIONS, WE DID THEM, AND WE loved THEM! Jenny Lake boat ride in, hike out, looking at the falls....Bar J chuck wagon! (it was not about the food, it was the EXPERIENCE!) BAR J offers a family experience!Where to eat: loved all the recommendations!Thanks again!

I bought this along with Moon Montana & Wyoming to plan our August 2021 Yellowstone Vacation, and this Fodor book quickly became my go-to guide. It was great for planning ahead and organizing my itinerary. It was also great for making on-the-fly adjustments. Very pleased with this guide book.

The best guide book I could find, having spent a lot of time reading reviews and looking through previews. This is a brilliant comprehensive guide to both Yellowstone and Grand Teton full of back ground information, maps, history, recommended hikes, must see highlights and places to stay. Very well written with a modern approach. Lots of great colour photographs that will certainly inspire you. We used this guide to help with planning and during the holiday, it now makes a great coffee table addition you can just keep going back for a read.

We visited this region in the summer of 2012 and wished we'd bought this book ahead of our visit. It brought back so many wonderful memories of our trip.

I just got it the day before. It is a very good book, better than I thought. I am happy with it.

Comprehensive - perhaps overly so. Probably recommend the "Rough Guide" in preference which seems to contain more "practical" information
