A Child's Introduction to Art: The World's Greatest Paintings and Sculptures (A Child's Introduction Series) Review: Stands out among art history books aimed at kids - Wow, great book for pre-teen to young teens. Readable, excellent illustrations that exemplify historical high points in art history. Lots of little exercises and suggestions for DIY projects, but it's mainly didactic. Just about the right amount of good information without being pedantic or boring. It's not an "encyclopedia" like a lot of art history books. The text and vocabulary are appropriate for middle school (or younger that read at that level) but it's not patronizing. lucky find. Review: Very useful - I bought this for ideas for my art class. It has so many ideas, fun coloring pages and info about artists. If you are looking for something specific you can easily find it through the index in the back.

Great introduction for children
Reading this with my children and they are really enjoying it. Well-written, lots of interesting facts, stories and illustrations. We read ot all and now the kids have picked out a couple of artists they want to learn more about. Fun easy read. Definite must have for young artists

Needed.
We first checked this book out at the library, and liked it so much I knew we needed a copy on our homeschool shelf! The hardcover is beautiful and filled with great content!

Great intro for my 5 year old!
I got this for my 5 year old daughter who loves all things art. She likes to see the different works of art and hear about the artists. I love to hear her comment on the art... she notices some detail about it and tells me, or says how she likes the colors and brushstrokes, or tells me about the way it makes her feel. Love it! I do think some of the selections could be improved, but a good intro to the works of so many artists.

A great introduction to art appreciation
Provides an excellent overview of well known artists and their work in an accessible and kid friendly format. It even offers ideas for fun art projects you can easily do at home in a variety of styles and mediums. This book is quite interesting, and a fun read for kids and adults alike. Another reviewer pointed out that there is a painting depicting an autopsy, and one showing a firing squad that some people may not feel is appropriate for their children to view. I wouldn't miss out on this gem based on that alone. I just mention it so you can read together if that is a concern for you.

Great art resource
This is an excellent book! Every page is filled with information about the artist, art style, and works of art written in a way that children can easily understand it’s content. I use this book with my kids (4 and 6 years) for homeschool, and I also use it to help teach an art class for my homeschool group with kids in 3-6th grade. I would highly recommend this book!

A nuestro hijo de 5 años le resulta pesado el texto, pero seguro lo disfrutará más adelante

Le livre est très complet et le contenu est intéressant. Ma petite amie qui a un doctorat en histoire de l'art l'aime beaucoup.

Great introduction to art. Has a bit of info on the artist and one of their paintings and the techniques used. Also has general information on art, colours, techniques etc scattered throughout. As someone who knows nothing about art, and wanting to teach our daughters, this is a great place to start!
