Brilliant idea, very well executed!
As a Scout leader, this is at the top of my packing list on camp and survival training! The whistle is loud and ear piercing enough to get every child in the field to stop and look my way so thats a big tick and would undoubtedly have the desired effect of getting help if required. The compass is a really nice touch too and despite its size, absolutely accurate when compared with my standard she map reading compass.I've not unlaced the paracord so I can't confirm how long it is but I am sure there would be enough to sort a basic bivvi if required and as for the fire starter... just check out the attached video... it says it all !

More of a child's novelty item than a serious piece of kit
I've only had these for a day and already I'm disappointed with them.Firstly, the construction:The sturdy plastic belt-type clip seems up to the job and works well. The paracord is claimed on the packaging to be 550 (i..e. has a breaking strain of 550 lbs force) but it's impossible to tell just by looking at it and the only way to confirm its strength is to see if it will actually lift or pull a 550 lb load --- not really a practical option except perhaps in a test lab but it's only a small piece of cord for use in an emergency so it should be OK and is certainly better than nothing. The adjustment toggle is easy to use for a precise fit but is a little bulky, although that in itself will not be a problem for most people. Now to the functionality of the accessories:The whistle is reasonably noisy and readily accessible when not attached to the wrist but isn't quite as loud or penetrating as similar whistles that I own --- still could be a godsend in an emergency though, and again better than nothing. The "fire rod" is very thin and after 5 minutes of trying with the included scraper I've been unable to get a spark from it (the scraper just makes it even thinner!) and its fixed position within the belt clip makes it impractical to use with a knife blade or similar. I've used many spark-generating rods before and wouldn't want to have to rely on this one as my only option for starting a fire so it gets 0 out of 10. N.B. the shape of the scraper means it could double as a basic slothead screwdriver in an emergency, which ought to be mentioned as a selling point on the packaging. The included "compass" should more accurately be called a 'where would you like north to be today?' pointer. So far neither of these items has agreed with my two accurate field compasses and they haven't yet tallied with each other either! Again 0/10 although I'll give the black one a 1/10 for effort for being so consistent in its 'wrongness'.So, final verdict? See the title of this review. Am I glad that I bought these? Well, for the price they're OK even without the useless "fire rods" and "compasses". Just don't expect too much if you order them. You'll be getting a piece of adjustable string of uncertain provenance attached to an adequate whistle and an unintentional screwdriver.

Brilliant little kit.
Nice little bit of kit and I hadn't realised they are a twin pack, so I was well surprised to find both a black one and an orange one.Compass works, whistle works, fire steel works. It's a tiny ferro rod but gives off a big spark so a good backup if you lose your big ferro. You need to get through the black coating to uncover the shiny ferro then it's easy to get a spark. I struck sparks first time using my multi tool nail file then the little striker was a cinch after that.Well worth having.

Absolute rubbish. Do not waste your money
This product is totally useless and unfit for purpose, even for children. The so called 12ft of para cord is in two pieces because of the ridiculous and so called strap adjuster, the longest being 1 metre, the other piece is even shorter. The compass is suspect to say the least and cannot be used whilst wearing the bracelet because the scrapper causes local magnetic attraction. If you can get consistent, decent sparks from the ferrous rod using the miniscule scrapper then you are better than me. Very uncomfortable to wear due to the large bulbous adjuster. One star because the Whistle works.

Making Fire the Awkward Way...
So the compass works, provided you hold it perfectly horizonal so it floats. The paracord speaks for itself, handy in an emergency. The whistle whistles. The fire starter ferro rod takes some practice but once you've got the black coating off so you can see silver metal, and you use the smooth side of the scraper not the serated side, you can get some really big sparks flying. Watch the YouTube videos for techniques. But it's a toy. When the zombie apocalyse comes and you need to cook your eggs over a campfire in the countryside this is going to really annoy you. Either buy a proper ferro rod and striker like the Light My Fire Swedish ones if you really want to make fire the awkward way, or just use a cheap disposable gas lighter like I intend to do when that moment comes. Some experts claim zombies are terrified by fire but hopefully it won't come to that.Nevertheless, you get 2 for your money, it's a bit of a novelty, and it's a bonus if you are wearing it when you suddenly find yourself alone in a wood at night with no lighter but some dry tinder to catch the sparks. For the latter try carrying around some tumble dryer lint in your pocket.

Inexpensive gadget
Purchased as gifts for grandchildren. Seem OK though not sure if one could ever remake the bracelet if the cord were used (but one can probably google how)! The compass is a bit tricky - it appears unusable when bracelet on wrist (I suspect the striker interferes with magnetic fields); but when bracelet held undone and flat it did seem to work provided the compass was kept strictly horizontal. Whistle works well.
