This is an AWESOME FAN!!!! The 16 inch and larger fans were too noisy at high speed and awkward to move around for us. This Ken Brown 14-inch Fan is the perfect size, stable, well built, moves a lot of air, and is much quieter at high and medium speeds than the larger fans!!! APPEARANCE: You can get an idea of the size of the fan by the picture of it sitting on the chair. Also, unlike bright silver fans, the black color blends into the background (see pictures). I had an “out of the box” issue with the first fan. Unfortunately, Amazon had just run out of this model. Because there was not any other 14-inch fans with this kind of quality, I DID NOT send it back to Amazon, but called the Ken Brown service department. After describing the problem, they assured me of the warrantee and sent me a new fan as soon as they were back in stock. Now for the details: This fan has pretty much everything that I was looking for. Most importantly, it has a Ball Bearing Brushless Motor which should last for years. We have a similarly designed fan that has lasted 20+ years. As this Ken Brown fan starts up, it sounds a bit like the whine of the industrial motors that we have at work. It still has a bit of that whine at low speed but is gone at higher speeds. The second fan was quieter than the first on low, but it still has a slight whine. This could be a problem for some, but I wanted the longevity that goes with this kind of motor. For me this far outweighs anything else. Both fans were quieter than most at higher speeds. CLEANING: There are four thumb tabs that flip up and make the grill easy to remove (see pictures). A flat screwdriver may be required to pry up the tabs the first couple of times. Then it requires only one philips screw to be taken off to completely remove the grill. (There is a nut behind the screw so be careful not to lose it). After 20+ years of excellent performance, it was finally time to replace my several Hampton Bay high-velocity fans. The old saying is true: they don’t make things like they used to; however, the 14” Ken Brown fan is the closest I’ve found to “old-school” quality. It easily beat out several similar-sized fans, including more expensive ones. PROS: — Very sturdy grill — Smooth spin up and spin down; well-balanced blades — Lightweight and easy to move, but stays in place even on high speed — Excellent motor; does not get hot even after many hours on high speed — Excellent airflow on all speeds — As quiet as you could expect from a high-velocity fan — Well-designed and comfortable carry handle — Works flawlessly (like “old-school” fans) — Convenient cord wrap — Excellent value CONS: — None Take it from someone who spent more hours than I care to admit trying to find a sturdy, high-quality 14” fan: buy the Ken Brown (particularly for the current price of $45.99, which is an absolute bargain). It’s cheaper than many competitors, has a much sturdier build, is better designed and has an amazing 5-year warranty. 5 stars.

I purchased this 5 blade fan specifically to have one that produces less noise that’s my similar 3 blade fan. It does produce less blade noise, but not sure it moves the volume of air as my 3 blade. One safety comment, I notice that if you look at where the ends of the blades fall within the grill there appears to be 1/2 inch or less between the end of the blades and the grill. If one were not careful and attempted to move the fan without using the attached handle there is no doubt that the tips of your fingers could be hit. Not a very likely issue, just mentioning, especially if you were talking about a small child with much smaller fingers.
