Much Improved
First off, let me say that I appreciate the all the effort Raand puts into her books. I think she puts more into some than others, but I'm grateful for it nonetheless. I said I wouldn't buy any more books in this series without reading them first after the previous one (NH), which was a major disappointment to me. That being said, I was desperate for something new in lesbian paranormal, and this definitely hit the spot! After I read Lone Hunt, I went back and reread the series from the beginning to get a better perspective.I wouldn't say I absolutely loved it, but I really REALLY liked this one. First, there was a new plot. I liked that she introduced us to a new Praetern species, even though it's only a different kind of Were and we didn't learn much about Were cats. I also liked that we got to see more of Jody & Becca (although I would have liked to know more-especially since there's still so much unknown about the vamps and Jody's relationship with human Becca and Becca's potential to be something more than just a regular human-I won't say more than that for fear of a spoiler). I wish we could get more about Sophia and Nikki. I realize she's not the most loved character, but in going back to the first story, I get her more. I don't think she's horrible. I think she's just uber-dedicated and misunderstood for it, but Sophia tempers that. I love them as a couple.Raand also toned down the I Need Yous, or at least, she spread them out across her couples. It seems like we got more of Lara and Raina together. I also appreciated that. As I stated in a previous review (Blood Hunt, I think), I'm not at all a fan of series that focus on just one person or couple in book after book after book. To me, stories are SO much better when an author can come up with a new tale for each new couple in each book. I don't want to use the word lazy, but there's just something...less challenging about standing on the shoulders of a couple you've already introduced. I do, however, love when an author keeps us informed of what's going on with past couples in subsequent novels. That being said, I don't dislike Sylvan & Drake. On the contrary. Theirs was my favorite story in this series, so far. However, I could do with less focus on them in EVERY story. I want more of the relationship between whatever new couple comes together.I feel like Raand shows favoritism toward S & D. She seems to respect their relationship more than any other, and they've gotten the most gametime by far. I wish she would focus mainly on each new couple and maybe give us updates on past couples, including S & D.I think if she did this with a new and exciting plot for each story, she would produce a 5 star book every time.Raand: If you read reviews for your work, this is what I personally would like to see change/happen in the next one...1. Please let us know more about Jody's transition and what it entails, as well as Becca's place in their world. The vamps, Risen and Pre-an are too little known.2. Solve Sophia's mystery, and please Please let her and Nikki complete their bond! (If anyone is reading this, you should have already found this out in the last one. If you haven't read them, then you absolutely NEED to go back and start at the beginning. These are not stand alone books. They are more of a lesbian soap opera, so make sure you don't jump in in the middle of it.3. I hope the next story is Michele & Katya's. I'm DYING to see how they play out and Francesca's reaction to them. (Btw, I love Francesca's duplicity! I'm wondering if she's going to come around.) I just hope you do their (M&K) tale justice and bring it!!

Book 4 In The On-Going Series Hits The Mark !
I truly enjoy the Midnight Hunters books - they're more like a serial than a series, though, and that makes it hard to wait for each new installment.Once a year isn't enough!!This newest volume introduces a new character into an already sweeping cast, but this addition - a Were cat Alpha - is a welcome participant. That being said - you really have to have read each one of the Midnight Hunters books in order to pick up and understand this one. The community of Praeterns, the politics and a very involved story-line are complex and build book to book. A reader cannot simply "drop into" the series - a read from book 1 forward is required. As a matter of fact, I would suggest a complete re-read of the first three books, and then picking up this one to add to the story. You'll get the most out of the plot, cast of characters and alliances with a fresh recollection. It will be worth it, though, because Rad is building a great and intriguing story.I do have one issue with the book ( and somewhat with the series in general ) - it definitely lacks a time and place for tenderness between the characters. There's a lot of sex, and lots of grabbing and taking and thralling and thrashing and ripping off of clothes - but there's not a heck of a lot of tenderness between the couples and I miss that. I don't think it's a spoiler to say that the Were cat Alpha has cubs - and for me, the most genuine and sweet moments are the few when the characters interact with them. As odd as it might sound, it makes the characters seem all the more relatable and real.Four stars from me for a great addition to a wonderful series. I'm waiting eagerly for the next book!

Excellent read
Travelodge/Raand has again delivered another great installment in her fantasy series. Her characters are fully developed, both strong and weak as we all are, and easily and eagerly followed. An interesting new character, an Alpha Were-Cat, brings with her a different take on the wolf pack, allowing also a wealth of future plot lines. The sex scenes are as hot, but thankfully not overwhelming as so easily can be done in this genre. Because the story is quick, interesting, well twisted with intriguing characters, the erotic scenes are a natural part of the story, not the most important part of it. An extremely unfortunate staple in some lesbian writers. The author has left us hungering (pun intended) for the next installment; and for me, an irrational wish that maybe the author and the business will be delivering a book a month, almost fast enough for me. Oh well, a girl can dream, and Radclyffe/Raand does, very well and expertly translates them to paper. If this book is the first you're discovering, don't... start with the first, it is more than well worth the time, I promise. This series is a true standout in the rapidly expanding world of vampires, werewolves, etc that are know their own sub genre.I

It's hard to be different but this one made that status
You come to expect certain things from favorite authors and Radclyffe writing as L.L. Raand is no different. I expect to get a lot of action in and out of the bedroom, a fast paced story, and a new twist to the supernatural craze. Those were my expectations when I picked up The Lone Hunt, the fourth in the Midnight Hunt Series. What I didn't expect was when you look deeper at the actual plot that ties each of these stories together. It is really intricate and the more I think about it, the more I wish Raand would hurry up with the next book. Not so that I can get what I expected but so I get to find out what happens. For me, the first three books were good- great characters, lots of interesting aspects creating this supernatural world, and of course lots of romance with a cutting edge, but those were just building the foundation. Setting the pieces of the game up and in this addition, the game is truly underway creating a different expectation for the next one in line.

Exciting read
When I bought the first in this series I wasn't sure if I'd like the strory line; but four books in and I still can't get enough. I ordered the The Lone Hunt in November and had to wait months before it was even due to be released as the time approached I got more excited at the prospect of reading the new issue. I wanted to know what happened with Drake and Sylvan and their young. How the relationship between Nicki and Sophie faired and how Lara was coping with the changes in her life. I wasn't disappoited in the least. Radclyffe writing as L L Raand takes us into a world inhabited with humans, Wares, Vampires and other species. In the Lone Hunt we are introduced to a new character, Raina who earns her place amonst the heroines.I couldn't help it I read the book at break neck speed; but am in the process of reading it again much slower this time and enjoying the story line and letting the words flow and the images in my head come to the forth.Bring on the next instalment....

Review: The Lone Hunt
The Lone Hunt is the fourth in L.L. Raand's Midnight Hunters series and is the best yet. Given that I have awarded five out of five stars to the previous books, that's an impressive feat. The story itself picks up just hours after the explosive finale of the preceding Night Hunt as the forces arrayed against Sylvan Mir and her Timberwolf pack seem to act with impunity whilst she tries to pursue acceptance for the praeterns through due process. After events in previous books, Lara is struggling to find her new place in the praetern world. Raina, on the other hand knows where her loyalties lie; as alpha of the Catamount were cats, to her cubs and her pride even though she is on the run from them which brings her into Timberwolf territory and into the path of Lara. We've met were cats before but usually only briefly as enforcers for the bad guys. It's explained why that happens and how it leads Raina to run into a situation that normally results in a were cat's death. I like Raina a lot. Unlike Lara who is believably torn between her old world and her new one, Raina's only thought is escape and the survival of her cubs. There is something that can't be defined about Lara and Raina's relationship that I enjoyed more than the others to date. Perhaps it was the fact that Raina gave Lara an anchor that she'd lost. And the fact that even though she is an alpha, she seems less bull headed than both Sylvan and Jody. However, that could well be because of the situation that she's in.Whilst that was the main relationship, things also progress in Francesca's vampire seethe with Michel and Katya and Luce and Dr. Veronica Standish. Michel and Katya's relationship, whilst more honest in that Michel isn't compelling the young wolf is still somewhat clandestine because Michel is trying to hide its importance to her from her viceregal. However, Dr. Veronica Standish and her fixation on Luce, her vampire bodyguard isn't what it seems and give the doctor's previous behaviour...good!Of course, a large portion is also devoted to Sylvan and Drake and Drake's pregnancy. All I'm going to say on this is that the ending, whilst not a cliff hanger is certainly a nail biter with a twist. As for whether the twist is for better or for worse...I won't spoil that.Unfortunately, The Lone Hunt has only recently been published at time of writing which means a long wait for the hoped next in the series.

Brilliant
I definitely recommend this series. It is quite expensive to buy each book but well worth the money. Wolf Weres, Vampires and so many lesbian romance going on, you won't be bored. I like Drake over the other females especially Niki, that wolf grates on me.

Well!
What can I say? Another instalment of the Midnight Hunters and just WOW!! It just keeps getting better and better. It's an extremely exciting and interesting story. It's compelling and very addictive. It has everything from love and friendship to war and adversaries. It's very well written and in my honest opinion very well written. You can see everything. Your imagination is compelled to participate through the authors descriptions and passion. I love it and now of to read number five.

Excellent series
LL Raand aka Radclyffe knows how to tell a story and develop excellent characters who can sustain a series and this is right up there with the Justice, Honor and Provincetown books series. The plot is complex but you soon get into it and the way the "inner wolf" is described becomes credible..... I don't know if I believe in the Midnight Hunters bloodlust (!?) but I do think Radclyffe engenders some kind of book lust - I just hope she keeps writing!
