WONDERFUL alternative to scraping shards off a block of beeswax!!
I use beeswax to harden the soap I make, not for its fragrance, looks, color or any other beeswaxy attributes that may exist. So naturally I was leery of trying it in such an easy- to- measure format. I’m used to scraping/ bashing a concrete- like block to get the chunks I need, to harden my soap to a rock-like consistency. I didn’t know if pellets would perform as well as beeswax shards, because I wasn’t sure if they were actual ‘pellets’ of beeswax, or if they’d been somehow chemically modified, like wood stove ‘pellets’ used to be part of a tree, till they ended up in a factory for compressing, chemical modification and transformation into something almost completely different. But I bought these anyway, interested in the ease of measuring them in this state vs scraping, unsure if I'd actually end up using them or not. Then tragedy struck and I ran out of my rock-like hunks of beeswax, what to do?! Oh yeah… try these things.I absolutely LOVED- I can’t think of a stronger word- how incredibly, life changingly easy they were to measure, WOW! I am so anal with my oil measurements, that making soap is SO much less fun now than it used to be before I got my scientific scale that weighs ingredients to the hundredth of a gram. A naturally semi- time consuming part of soap making became more so now that I can scrutinize and monitor how much each drip, drab and drop weighs. Adding to the time I’ve naturally burdened myself with (instead of my old, ‘it’s close enough, so who cares’ philosophy of measurement and weight) , peeling off eyelash-width scrapings of beeswax isn’t a fast process either, making all of it almost too laborious to bother with.Measuring these made me wish everything came in pellets, even liquid oils!Because even more important than the incredible ease of measuring, I learned the very first batch I used them in that pellets have the same exact qualities as the hard to work with chunks!! Fresh from the mold, My slippery, stupid hands dropped the entire 2# soap loaf I’d just carefully unmolded before I could rest it on its drying rack. I had not even completed uttering my obscenity when it hit the floor HARD. Convinced I’d broken off all the cute little details, I was shocked to see everything- every corner, every swirly appendage, every fake ocean wave on top was fully intact, as if my hands hadn’t been stupid and slippery 2 seconds earlier! Wow! A panic inducing test for sure, but I am really glad I know that I can highly recommend this product now!

Smell? What smell?
I've purchased a couple of different bags of this or very similar white beeswax pellets. Both have the same scent to them. Faintly of honey, if you use your imagination. Otherwise, you could say they smell... waxy... like if you were to take a whiff of a candle.Would I call it smelly? Not really. Sure you can smell it, but if you associate "smelly" with "smelly socks," then I wouldn't say smelly.Odor? Yes, an odor, but not a "foul odor" that you might expect from a garbage can.I personally do not find the "aroma" to be obnoxious or nauseating. It is distinct, but I have also found that it DOES DISSIPATE after melting and even more given time out in the open air (if your application allows for it to air out after whatever you've done with it).I cannot detect the "bouquet" in any of the salves or balms that I've made using the pellets. The other ingredients easily over-power it.I've been using it to wax cotton, and this is where I can tell that the "fragrance" starts to go away after a couple of days sitting out. I might guess that there are some compounds present in the wax which oxidize or evaporate over time bringing it closer to a "scentless" state. Balms/lotions/salves/etc are probably going to be in an airtight container as you wouldn't want the other ingredients in them to oxidize or evaporate, but as I've previously stated, I cannot detect the beeswax over the other ingredients.FYI, the pellets are about the size of a brown lentil and melt readily.I have not experienced it being harmful to skin as I've gotten it all over my hands while working with it as well as used in several on-skin applications without issue.

Used it for Encaustic Medium
Purchased this & some Damar resin to make my own encaustic medium. Having pellets instead of chunks was quite nice, but this wax has an odor!I was melting it in a crock-pot and my entire house filled with a very strong chemical smell. Once I was working with smaller pieces (not the whole two pounds) the odor was not nearly as powerful and made it easier to work with.If you're looking for something that has the naturally sweet smell of beeswax, this is not it. But other than the smell it mixed with the resin and I've made a number of paintings that seem to be holding up.****UPDATE January 2013****I've used this wax (and others from Stakich) now a few times and would like to expand on my review. I was expecting that the wax would have a similar odor to the R&F Encausic Medium that I was using. There is a stronger odor with this wax than with the pre-made Medium. That being said, the few other waxes that I've tried all have the same odor. I was bowled over by the smell mostly because I used a smallish living space with a crockpot and 2+ lbs of wax. With the crockpot outside, the smell is minimal and it does dissipate rather quickly.

Long lasting candle, good quality white bees wax
Extremely happy with this wax. It did NOT have a strong odor like other other bees wax. The pellets have a yellow tint but after melting, pouring, and letting the wax dry it is nearly pure white. Used wax for candles. Poured into a pint jars. 1lb of wax pellets will make two 6.6 oz pint jar candles with a small amount of wax to spare. After the wax dries the candle easily slips out of the jar. Tested the burn time on the wax, 22 hours before I gave up... 22 hours and the candle was less than 1/2 spent. I’m very very pleased with the wax.
