I have double wall stainless chimney. The cap for that chimney had to be repaired numerous times due to failure of the inner mounting ring which is a screw on aluminum component. Although the rest of the the old cap was indeed stainless, the integrity of the cap depended on the inner mounting piece. After numerous failures and repairs I chose to replace it. The Selkirk cap clamps on the outside of the chimney so it will not "glue" itself to the top of the chimney. The additional feature of all stainless steel construction as well as the price point made it the best choice for my home.

I bought this cap to replace existing due to water running down the inside of the chimney onto the top of my fireplace. I still have water entering the chimney with stronger winds. I know the water is coming from the cap as for 2 months I had the top of the pipe covered with a bag and I didn't have any water issues so the flashing, etc is working correctly. I also bought the 6T-SA (spark arrestor with this so I have over $60 in a chimney cap that still leaks. Really easy to install. (works with 6" ID/8" OD chimney).

The chimney cap seemed to be of good quality and I am totally satisfied with it. However, the clamp they included was way to large to clamp down on the 6" chimney pipe I had. I ended up drilling an extra hole part ways down the clamp and bending out another tab so I could make it fit, trimming off the excess from the clamp. I would recommend them changing to a worm-screw (hose clamp) style clamp so it would have much more range to clamp down with.

I selected this stainless steel Selkirk chimney cap to replace an old galvanized cap for my gas furnace roof vent pipe. The internal clips in my old cap had rusted away, causing it to rest directly on the top of the vent pipe, blocking it completely. It must have been this way for a while, as there was plenty of rust inside the duct leading to the roof vent. Assessment: I am pleased with its construction. Two comments if you buy one: (1) Some of the sheet metal edges are sharp - suggest breaking the sharp edge with a few passes of a file or sandpaper. (2) The stainless steel strap that clamps the cap onto the vent pipe is sized for an 8" diameter pipe. If your vent is 6" diameter, as mine is, you will need to cut the clamp strap shorter and drill a new bolt hole at one end.

This item was replacing one that was over 30 years old. Replaced all the piping and vent top. The only thing I wish was that there were installation instruction pertaining to the product instead of generic code instructions for the whole chimney instead. It wasn't hard to figure out to bend the 3 tabs down and then secure it with the band included.

Fast delivery, it fit perfectly. The box was a bit squished so the upright pieces were twisted and bent, but were easily bent back into shape. Looks and works 100%

Easy to install, seems quite able to stay put.

It replaces the identical one I have so it is great. Thanks very much.
