SonimXP8 XP8800 Dual-SIM 64GB (AT&T) Ultra Rugged Phone

We bought this phone for an individual that has limited control. She frequently drops or slams her phone so we needed one that would be tough. This phone so far fits the bill. Durable, so far no broken glass and it still works. It has lasted longer than any other phone used. Works well with the internet, has survivied a few glass breaking slams and drops and still keeps giving. It has good reception and works well with TTI communications. Battery seems to drains quick but it could be user issues. The phone is heavy and won't fit in your hip pocket so get a belt case but it is durable. I recommend it to anyone needing a durable phone in a rough environment.

Had this since April 14 and for the last month, it has been turning itself off and wont turn back on. I only text occasionally and make few calls. Do not browse or store anything. Very disappointed in this product

Replaces a Motorola military phone that still worked after 10 years but the 3G network is being obsoleted, so I chose the Sonim. Price was right, very rugged, doesn't need an additional case. The extra-long battery life is terrific and doesn't bother me one bit that the Sonim is thick and heavy.As advertised, the audio is quite loud just like the old Motorola, an absolute must-have when operating near heavy machinery, but sadly the sound is distorted at any level. The user interface is very sparse, ostensibly to discourage soldiers and first responders from playing with their phones. But after a few days of the klunky user interface I had to go back to my Galaxy 9 (which is also waterproof), making the Sonim my secondary phone.Fingerprint recognition is on the front and works very well, a nice touch, no pun intended. Screen is big and bright but is not an OLED and color saturation is so-so. Not a deal breaker.Although it's not my everyday phone any more, if the Samsung gets run over by a tractor, I know this phone will get me through any emergency. It was easy to copy my contacts and chats to the Sonim and it's ready to go at a moment's notice.The back of the Sonim includes a wireless charging coil, another must-have, but it refuses to play nice with either my Ankur charging stand or my Samsung pad. Avoid charging via USB, the waterproof flap might eventually break off like it did on the Motorola. However the Sonim charging stand is expensive and for now, can only be charged by opening the USB flap each time.This Sonim can control building automation beautifully. For some reason the Galaxy always struggled with it. So the Sonim has found a good home running things, saving me lot of wait time.I wouldn't buy another Sonim but if this one gets destroyed I will consider it. The construction is so strong and robust, it should last a good long time. Lastly, RF performance is good. The Sonim works better than the Galaxy in weak signal areas. This can be VERY important in an emergency. Just like the Motorola, the Sonim case includes an antenna "bump" which gives it better RF range.

As medical first responder and soldier, this phone is awesome. While I may be writing this eval late after purchasing in Dec 2020, this attests to the fact that this phone is beyond my expectations. I've owned the so-called "rugged" Galaxy and it doesn't hold up. The Sonim XP8 does and withstands abuse in the field.PRO: Seriously rugged with very useful attachments. EXCELLENT battery life.CON: The screen protector just began to separate from the actual touch screen, about 3/16", in the upper right area near the antenna. But nothing major.
