National Geographic Traveler: Costa Rica, 4th Edition Paperback – October 1, 2013

The DK Eyewitness Guidebooks are the best! I purchased this one and enjoyed the pictures and information provided. The only problem was that the Arenal Vocano near La Fontana is no longer erupting. The locals all said that the eruptions stopped in 2010 so the information in the book was inaccurate, since the book said that roads could be found to best view the nighttime eruptions. The pictures of the eruptions were beautiful, though. Be prepared for rough, unpaved roads throughout Costa Rica.

I will be going to Costa Rica in July and really wanted a heads up on the areas I will be visiting. This book really is an indept overview of the sites to see. As well as giving information about lodging and tours.

Colorful illustrations and detailed information re: Costa Rican main features plus surrounding areas. Includes helpful tips re: inhabitants customs and etiquetteincluding what not to say or do.

This is a very good book for suggestions on where to sight see. It has outstanding pictures in it. I would suggest the Fodor book to complement this book.

We love the Eyewitness Travel Guides, as they have lots of good info, maps, and photos (which most books don't have). We are using this to plan our trip and will also take it along with us. We also bought the Frommer's Book on Costa Rica. Along with this Eyewitness book, we have enough to plan out a great trip.

Beautiful book, as most of Eyewitness series.I use to buy this series books to have memories of my trips.But if you're seriously planning your travel, this book is almost useless. It doesn't give practical information essencial to travel. Really, if you're planning to travel without an organized tour, try the Lonely Planet series.

Good advice and information

Second book I got on a upcoming trip planned to Costa Rica. Very good information about the country. Not a lot of details.

An excellent guide accompanied by good town plans, recommended trips and accommodation. Colourful pictures and DK have a good reputation.

Sarebbe una buona guida con illustrazioni a colori molto belle se non fosse scritta veramente a caratteri troppo piccoli. Non ho mai avuto problemi di vista ed ora anche a 50 anni suonati leggo bene anche senza occhiali. Bhe questa guida non riesco a leggerla neppure con gli occhiali da lettura se non c' è una buona luce ; ho fatto veramente fatica e spesso ciò mi toglieva la voglia di iniziare la lettura. Forse era meglio farla costare qualche euro in più e scriverla in caratteri più grandi aggiungendo qualche pagina.

Before my trip to CR I looked for guides and the National Geographic one proved exceptionally thorough, well-organised and detailed. What's more it didn't pander to the Tourist agencies; it told it like it is with many 'enjoy BUT watch out for.....' It's written by someone with extensive knowledge of the country. I like that.
