How to Teach Art to Children, Grades 1-6

Really love how this teaching guide/workbook is laid. Great concepts that challenge the student to think outside the box. I will be using again next year.

I was a little unsure how I was going to go about an art curriculum and I somehow stumbled upon this book. It works so well for us. For reference, I have a 5 year old. I will likely revisit some of these lessons or use them to create similar lessons as she gets older. Some of the lessons would probably be suited better for a child a tad bit older just because of the fine motor skills some of the activities require. But we still ge through them just fine and learning a lot about art.

Purchased this book as a quick reference for simple ways to teach some basic art concepts when I was recently hired as an Art Teacher for an after school program. This book is REALLY well outlined and illustrated, so it's very easy to read and follow if you need an idea in a pinch! Even someone who is subbing for Art (but maybe isn't as familiar with the concepts) can easily create a simple lesson for any child! Has some great back-pocket projects that could be substantial for the youngest kids, and can ben quickly implemented. Definitely a great book to keep on hand when teaching art to young kids, especially for an ART CAMP setting! My only complaint would be that a majority of the projects include PAINT, which is a bit more difficult to use in the program I am in, and some of the projects seem a little "young", but all in all, a great starter point for planning and reference!

I have no art background and I was able to teach a successful year of 1st and 2nd grade art co op class thanks to this book. The projects are simple, and supplies are easy to find. I loved the literature ideas to accompany the projects. I learned so much about art alongside my students!

I have an art background but struggled with putting together a homeschooling art program for my son. This book is the perfect answer. It’s well structured with projects made out of basic materials contained in most homes or easily purchased within a tight budget. The lessons are set up in a way that they can be used by almost any age group. I plan to make my own projects as we work through the book. If I counted correctly there are 90 projects. We will use this. Ok over the next two years, but it could easily be extended over a 3 year program. I highly recommend this book to homeschooling families or any children that have expressed a love of art.

This isn't a "teaching" guide at all. It merely is a project book. Yes it encompasses the elements in a hands on manner but that is all. I had to supplement with other books to teach the art lesson and use this book for projects. The artists in the back are really the only teaching aspect of this book. The color wheel worksheets were good but again not great.

Makes it very easy to teach about blends and primary colors, warm tones cool etc. Easy art projects to follow without having to spend a lot on supplies. I love this book for the primary grades.

If you teach your own art, this is the ONLY book you need! Its excellent. I took the concepts from the book and made a couple projects out of it and the kids absolutely LOVE IT. If you have zero artistic background, this book will have you teaching it like a pro. I HIGHLY recommend this book. I borrowed a copy from a 30 year veteran of teaching and after using it for a week, I bought my own copy. I moved to a new school and people think I'm an art expert! Do yourself a favour and get this book if you're teaching your own art!

Excellent resource for teaching kids art…

This book contains basic and simple techniques to introduce the students to artistic through reasoning and experimentation. It also contains artist and explane the artist’s techniques and they colud try to imitate them. 100% RECOMMENDED Specilly for CLILprogrammes

For people who intend to get into teaching art to kids I'd say this could be a good enough material to start of with and through time as you strat teaching art you will be able to add your own touch based on what you have learnt through this book, therefore I'd say it wouldn't be a waste of money at all... you could blindly go for it.
