Well worth buying
I never thought I would need one of these, but since I planned a boat cover project, I decided to spend a bit more on this tool. Wow, it works so much easier than the soldering iron I had been using. It cuts quickly and cleanly. 2 things to keep in mind for this particular tool: 1) there is no temperature control - this means that you need to limit the "on" time to about 15 seconds at a time. Typically you will have made your cut in this time so it's not a big deal. It takes a few seconds to come up to temperature so you don't want to start cutting too quickly. 2) Use a glass plate under the material. I first tried an aluminum ruler but found that the sharp(ish) blade would dig in a bit causing it to drag. This won't happen with a glass plate.

Review/Use D-60 Hot Knife tool
This tool works exceptionally well and is very easy to use. It is made very well and heats up quickly for use effectively and efficiently. It is also very useful and effect for cutting nylon cord/rope to keep it from unraveling by sealing the cut with heat. This Hot Knife is a must for cutting Sunbrella materials and will help keep the material from fraying and unwanted ragged edges.

easy and fast
had to make 20 ,count 20 new covers for patio funiture and this knife made life so much easier , no 4 sizes were the same and this made cuting and sealing the edges of outdoor fabric a breeze. just remember to hold for 3 sec and cut then heat again for 3 seconds, don't allow end to get to hot or the knife may turn off automaticly to prevent overheating , works on zippers to to help seal an edge, would highly reccomend

Solid - Well Worth it
My previous hot knife failed around 3 yrs old. I used it a lot, 1st the Micro switch for the trigger failed then the temperature control failed - and I needed a replacement quick, I use the Hot Knife a lot to cut Sunbrella. Reluctant to buy the same brand, I found this one from Devandy_Tool_US, Wow! It arrived the next day (Thanks Amazon prime!)Upon receipt of the package I wondered what else was inside, it weighs that much! Not too heavy to handle, but probably 3 times the weight of the previous tool.1st task with the new hot knife was to cut 3 panels of sunbrella, total cutting was 40' feet of material in 3 pieces. No problem, it cut cleanly from start to finish. Then, after sewing the panels (I was making a boom tent) I had to trim the corners in order to hem them. 6 layers of Sunbrella - No problem! As expected, the edges were completely sealed, no risk of splaying.I worried about the knife overheating as there is no temperature control (which on the old one I set to max just to cut satisfactorily) . But there's no need, I simply held the trigger for about 3 seconds and released for 2 seconds on a long cut - 3on - 2off I want this knife to last - And it came with a 12 month Warranty.Oh! The Trigger! I had to grip like Thor to turn the old knife on, the new one is a gentle touch trigger, I think the electrical cord is a couple of feet longer too as the new one reaches the end of my working bench which is about 8'So far I'm totally impressed with this hot knife. It must weigh close to 3 times the weight of my old one (now in the garbage). This one is a keeper I highly recommend it.

Great!
Bought this to make a few boat covers from sunbrella marine fabric. I had improvised other hot blade setups in the past to cut and seal fabric, but using this hot knife was an absolute pleasure. I picked up a 1x3 foot pane of glass to use as a cutting surface. Cycling the trigger on and off a few seconds at a time, the blade cut cleanly and swiftly, making the task pretty much effortless. So happy i got this hot knife!!!

Worth every penny
I have owned this hot knife for 2 years and I have used it countless times. It cuts and and burns synthetic rope and paracord so efficiently that I find myself digging it out every single time I need to fix something or cut a new length of synthetic cordage.I just found myself fixing a drawstring on a cheap bag that was just cut at the factory and not singed. I dug this tool out over grabbing a lighter out of the junk drawer ... and that realization inspired this review. I can not recommend this tool enough.

Excellent alternative to Sailrite
This works perfectly for cutting Top Notch heavy fabric for the boat cover I’m making. It’s so much faster than the weller 140w soldering gun that I was using with a hot knife attachment. The blade on this will turn red hot after a few seconds, so it’s best to cycle it on for about 3 seconds, off for one second as you’re making a cut. I haven’t let it get hot enough to use the thermostatic cutoff, just because I don’t want to overheat the blade (to make it last longer). Will update after I’ve been using it for a while. I’ve only cut about 50 linear feet of fabric so far.UPDATE: Still going strong in August 2024, using this to cut ropes and have used for hours of fabric cutting. Still on the original blade. I’ve even successfully powered it using a little inverter and a Makita battery - making it quasi cordless - it still has a cord, but I don’t need to be plugged into the wall. Perfect for cutting lines on the boat, or making alterations in place.
