For those of you that are curious about the inventions of Nickola Tesla, having this plasma ball is a good place to start. It had me asking basic physics questions from the start. Needed a conversation piece for my TV room and wasn't in a lava lamp kind of mood. Makes some pretty funky patterns and will follow your finger if you drag it across the surface. Be careful where you place it. It is made of glass after all.

My son had seen one of these types of plasma balls at a ticket redemption counter of an arcade, and mentioned how cool it was. Having run out of ideas for his upcoming birthday, I started researching these online. There seem to be many smaller ones, but this was one of the biggest. Others 'dance' to music, but most of the review were not good for those.Well, I have to say, once we plugged this baby in, we were mesmerized!! You don't even need darkness, although it does look even cooler! The electric streaks inside the ball follow your fingers or hand, and you can make countless different patterns. My son now sleeps with this next to his bed, and shows it to everyone that visits his room!!The only negative comment I have is that the box this came in was very flimsy and the seams had come unglued. So when I removed the box from the shipping box, it cam apart right away. I taped up the seam, though, and all was well.I highly recommend this item to anyone looking for a cool conversation piece, or unusual gift!!

This item was bought for a 7 year old Brother & Sister, It looks really cool & they loved putting their hands or fingers on it to see what it did, they spent ages doing this & seemed to get a lot of joy from it, it also looks cool in a dark room at night.Having said that I don't think its worth $45.00, maybe $20 or $25 perhaps, it feels cheap to the touch, the bottom is black plastic & feels somewhat cheap, the glass orb is made of thin glass & if not looked after will get broken easily, especially if children are left to 'play' with it unsupervised.Does it do what it says?, yes, I just think the price is a little high & feels a little cheaply made.
