meh.
It's very astute, and there's a lot of valuable thought, but it's now somewhat dated. I haven't finished it yet, and it's striking me a baroque in its design. There's a lot of detail to follow, and I'm having a hard time pigeonholing things in a memorable way. I think it feels unnecessarily dense. I bet a re-write would be stellar. The concepts really do enlighten about how perception and memory effectively create personality, and how fear feeds itself both intra-personally and societally. I still haven't latched on to anything poignantly useful, though.

Foundation for cross-disciplinary study
Goleman's "Vital Lies, Simple Truths" copyrighted in 1985 is not to be dismissed as dated material. Goleman provides an easily read foundation for much of the research being reported in the 25 years subsequent to his publication. His hypotheses and illustrations from qualitative research establishes a clear milestone whether your discipline may be Sociology, Psychology, Business, Leadership, or Medical research. Like any report from good research, Goleman is careful to note his own potential biases as well as clearly identifying further research in related areas whose critical need became evident during the pursuit of his own focus. For anyone in the above disciplines, this book is highly recommended.R. Bruce Moore, Ph.D.

Insightful read.
The book explains why human beings failing at seeing the world correctly (unbiased). The author provides a lot of research to support his arguments and my only hope is that this research is true, because the book and his evaluations are excellent.
