A Great Alternative to Franchise Books
I don't have a problem with "Paw Patrol", or "Smurfs", or all of the Disney book merch. But it's nice to find the occasional item that isn't tied in to anything other than the broader American culture. This is a book of Tall Tales, and I like our little guy becoming familiar with Johnny Appleseed and Paul Bunyon and John Henry, and the rest of that gang. That wouldn't matter, though, if the book were poorly written or silly. It isn't. The text is clever and engaging. The art is appealing. The tales are well told at the little guy's level. As a bonus, the idea here is for an older reader to be able to read out loud the harder parts and a new little reader to be able to read some of the easy parts. So we get to read together. That's a great idea and it works very well in the context of a book like this.So this was a fine, amusing and entertaining find, with a novel angle and big rewards. A nice selection.

Makes reading fun!
My daughter LOVES this series! It encourages her to read. She is in first grade, so several of the words are challenging for her, but she is willing to try and stumble because she loves the back and forth of the two of us reading together. It makes reading seem more like a fun activity when an adult does it too... it feels less like practice or homework, so it is a big WIN for my house!

Not interested
Perhaps she is too young to appreciate Tall Tales but my granddaughter loved every other Read Together book except this one.

... whole set of these Hoberman books and I just love them for reluctant readers
I have the whole set of these Hoberman books and I just love them for reluctant readers. They love reading the parts with me. I have also used these books at parent training meetings to show them fun ways to read with their kids. Awesome books.

I love to read to my grandchildren (any child really) & they are reaching an age to be able to read so these read together books are wonderful for sharing reading time as well as developing inflection while reading.

Reading in 2 Voices
This is the sixth book in the "You Read to Me, I'll Read to You" series. I have been reading these books to second graders and they always ask for more.
