Q: Can this be used as a heat lamp for reptiles? Also what is the maximum amount of wattage it can hold?

For a reptile you will want a separate UVB bulb and heat bulb. This is a UVB bulb, it doesn't provide heat. With the little heat it might has, it's not even close enough suitable for a reptile. You will want a heat/basking bulb for your reptile :) This also shouldn't be used as a UVB bulb for reptiles, as reptiles and birds have different UVB/UVA requirements. The reptile UVB is too strong for birds- so this would be too weak for them, whether tropical or desert.

Q: Would this lamp benefit cage free birds just being in their room? What's the radius of it's effectiveness?

The lamp is not omni-directional, so, it wouldn't benefit cage free birds unless they roosted under the lamp.

Q: Any ideas on how I could make this work for a macaw that is free to go where she pleases and spends most of her time about 12in away from ceiling?

This lamp is only meant for cages and the light should always be positioned 12-24 inches above the bird, not angled so the bird might stare into it. . You could set the lamp up over the cage. Make sure that food and water toys and treats are in the open cage all day so bird will return to it and get benefit of light. Also, an hour before bird goes to bed at night, have light shining on him while he’s safely in cage. SOME uv light is better than none. I would also ask a good vet this question. All this uv lighting stuff is to help bird with vitamin d absorption. Good luck !

Make sure you pick the right bulb volt.

Nice lamp.but to strong for uk volts bulb smoked.no problem in sending it tho.excelent company to buy from.

Do not buy in UK

Do not buy if you live in the UK!!!! This product is dangerous and could kill you. It comes with a 2 pin USA plug and a flimsy lead even with an adaptar you are taking a risk. The power supply will lead to fire. Plugged mine in went bang clouds of smoke but still working no thanks I value my life. Buy in the UK when you can don't be tempted by cheaper price ideal for US but not UK. Plus it costs almost double purchase price to return it. Buyer beware
