Perfect Saw for Small Projects and Clean Cuts
I picked up this 12-inch Craftsman miter saw after getting rid of my old chop saw, and it’s been a great move. It handles small projects perfectly — smooth, accurate cuts without any hassle. The clamp holds pieces steady, and the adjustments are easy to dial in. It’s got enough power for trim, framing, or light woodworking, and it’s not overly bulky to move around. For a reliable saw that does clean, precise work, this one hits the mark.

Saw is short and not particularly "agressive"
I'm using this to cut 45 degree corners for some picture frames I'm making. This miter box and saw combination is perfectly functional and will get the job done. However!... When used on the 45 degree slots, the 12" saw has only about 2-3" of "throw" left with which to do the cutting. Being this short, one must be careful that the saw does not exit the slot on the far side. This issue may well be my fault since the miter box is wide enough to fit a 2x4 in (the wide way!) but my moulding is only about an inch wide... live and learn. The saw is also not particularly "agressive". While seemingly pretty sharp with lots of good sized teeth, the saw does *not* cut very well. I am cutting some very soft, thin, pine moulding and it's unbelievable to me how long it takes to cut through, even when taking the short stroke (mentioned earlier) into consideration. The idea of actually cutting a 2x4 with this short, "weak" saw is absolutely ludicrous... it would literally take all day! The plastic miter box is pretty much what I was expecting it to be... good enough for what I'm using it for but it's certainly not a metal box by any means and I've already cut into the material appreciably by making just 2 frames (8 corners = 16 cuts). I guess my biggest disappointment is the saw's short length (compared to the 45 degree slots) and weak cutting efficiency. But again, for the price, it gets the job done for my undemanding needs. So 4 stars.

An honest review.
Not that great. Lots of play in the grove slots. Saw is very dull, not aggressive at all. My own fault for not taking the negative reviews more seriously. Made it work for what I needed, but would not buy again.

Gets the job done
Gets the job done. Installed some crown moulding in one bedroom. Did not have to spend the money for a miter saw and this got the job done. As long as you use the small attachments and use your hand without getting cut, its very accurate. It is small and able to be used almost anywhere. I just place it on the floor of my garage and went to work. I tend to cut at an angle, but with this, have to force myself to level out the blade. If not, Ill be cutting into the device itself.

The hardest thing about using this item was unpacking it. (use pliers to pull out the mounting pin, do not pry it out by lifting the saw blade.. *duh*) I read a couple reviews and saw the negative comments so I will also touch on those. 1 this is a mitre saw, not a hand saw, hence the weighted bar on the back. Let the saw do all the work. All you have to do is move it ------> <----- do NOT angle the saw blade keep it level. If you are seeing plastic powder, you are not keeping the blade level, be more careful. 2 This saw does exactly what it is supposed to do. Clean finish cuts at specific angles. If the cut isn't clean it is your fault, adjust your method. Be more precise when flipping your work to make sure you are on the same cut. ----- ----- not ----- _____ (have to use imagination, the lines represent your cut) 3 IT IS MASTERCRAFT... LIFETIME warranty!!! The first review I read that the saw was bowing... the reviewer was trying to use it as a hand saw, not letting the miter saw do the work. Think of driving your car with the emergency break on... you gonna snap a cable, right? Saw teeth are the brake, saw blade is the cable. 4 you CAN screw this down to a work bench, but if you are doing everything right, you can just clamp in your wood and hold the miter box with your free hand... You do not need a lot of force to cut, let the weight on the blade to the work. I can imagine a lot of carpenters reading this and saying "Well DUH!!!" but this isn't so much for them, they have the power miter saws costing $300 and up. This is for Joe average who might know how to saw but has not used a miter saw. 5 cut accuracy totally depends on your accuracy. Measure twice, cut once. You shouldn't need more than a light sanding on the ends to finish the cut with a nice clean flat surface. I am using this to turn a busted box spring into a spice rack. Waste not want not.
