Airfix A06021 Blackburn Buccaneer S.2 RN

It's not often i make a jet kit but i saw this kit and i couldn't help myself. £21.00 for a new mould Royal Navy Blackburn BuccaneerI must say i've always admired the 'Bucc. It looks mean and a friend who served in the RAF as ground crew worked on them and had nothing but praise for them!One of the toughest airframes of it's era. Flying at highspeed at low level through lots of dirty air..the unique rotating weapons bay.A beautiful aircraft indeed!This new 1:72nd scale Airfix kit is.. superb. Airfix have excelled themselves with this one in my opinion. The crisp mouldings and lack of flash is welcomed. It went together like a dream.Usually i would spray my models with grey primer. In this case i thought i'd go for a spray on without primer. I washed the model before painting. It seems to have worked well and the paint has stuck.I hand pinted the canopy, which was quite hard.The decals are thin but went down without any need for softeners.Built Out Of The Box as XV 3636 of No 800 Squadron Royal Navy , June 1971 aboard HMS Eagle.

The media could not be loaded.  I don't usually do 1/72 scale aircraft, but I spotted this Airfix kit and decided to take the plunge and go for it. Nicely moulded, no flash visible and good detail, maybe just a little soft but still very nice. Goes together very well and an ingenious way of building the main engine compartment, looks very nice when its finished. You do need to add weight to the front nose cone to stop it becoming a tail sitter, I used about 15 grams of lead weight to make sure it sat nicely. Two naval squadron codes to choose from, and with a decent paint job and some weathering it comes out looking pretty good. Hopefully the photos will do it some justice.

Airfix released this newly tooled kit in 2019 and it’s fair to say that it was well received by the modelmaking community. I’ve never seen a bad review of this kit and I thought it was time to try one myself.If you ‘Google’ this model, you’ll find plenty of online reviews, build advice, and reference material, so I’m keeping my review brief….PROS:- Parts fit is generally exceptional, very little filler was needed in my build.- Level of detail is superb, more like a 1/48 scale kit, especially the cockpit and main undercarriage bays.- Clever modular assembly (nose, mid-section, rear tail) means when the model goes together, the joints become panel lines.- Clear parts are excellent, although they are thin, so care is needed when masking.- Options for everything - wings down or folded, airbrake open or closed, canopy open or closed, bomb-bay open or closed etc…- The decals sheet is amazing, well over 100 decals to apply, although some are incredibly small. However, they’re beautifully printed and with a little setting solution all went down exceptionally well.CONS (in fairness, I’m being picky here):- One or two of the smaller components are rather badly moulded, the long pitot tube on the port wing is especially poor.- Don’t take a chance on not fitting the specified nose weight recommended in the instructions. It does need it, or else you’ll finish up with real tail-sitter.- The instructions are generally good, but they omit the landing light, a clear part, which fits on the front of the nose gear.- The colour guide has ‘desert yellow’ (Humbrol 93) for the canopy seals, normally these are pale grey.- Not a kit for the novice model maker. Care and thought are needed during assembly, especially the mid-section which, very cleverly, incorporates the undercarriage bays. I’d strongly recommend dry fitting everything as you progress through that section.In summary, this is an exception kit and typical of the models Airfix is producing these days – interesting subject matter, obviously well researched, and manufactured to a high standard. The Buccaneer is a very distinct shape and the Airfix designers got this model kit absolutely spot on.Highly recommended!

This kit is a great revamp of an old favourite.I remember building the original Airfix model of the Blackburn Buccaneer as a child, when Airfix kits were "pocket money" models.This model of the Blackburn Buccaneer has plenty of detail, much of which is hidden in the completed model so, not really necessary and for once, because of the "new tooling" there is very little flashing to remove during the build on this kit.Unfortunately, like all of the models in the current Airfix catalogue, this model is sadly over-priced - which is why I've only given 3 stars. ☹️Except for the high pricing, this old favourite is worth 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ all day long!!

A very good model of the Buccaneer, good detail. Would have been nice to have decals for the RAF squadrons as well though, but a good model overall.

何年待ったであろうか？待望の女王陛下のバッカニア新金型発売し二個買いました、開けて見た感想は毎回お馴染みの石鹸臭い感じです。キットはモールドと良いパネルラインやリベットが良く72とは思えないクオリティーです。輸入キットの為、説明書は英文のみです。
