Wish it worked…but “fixed” in the end
Mine didn’t work out of the box. Has oil, but won’t build pressure. I didn’t get to use it before the return window closed, so I’m appealing to the seller to see what can be done.I will keep you posted.*** UPDATE ***The seller reached out to me and, despite being beyond the return window, offered me a full refund.I believe I just had the misfortune of getting the statistical “bad” unit. My updated rating of five stars factors that in, and also considers the sellers ethics, thus the relatively low risk of buying from them.Give them a chance.

Useful tool at a great price
I bought this tool to make battery cables for a road course race car. The cables that I made were with 4 gauge wire and copper lugs. As others have stated, do not rely on the gauge markers on the dies but test the fit over bare wires first. If the dies fit and leave a little room, that is probably the set that you need to crimp your lugs on. I crimped carefully and watched as the dies barely touched and then stopped crimping. I did not want to run into an issue of damaging the tool and my cables turned out beautifully. The price of the tool here was much less expensive than even the discount tool store in town. I am very pleased with my purchase!

It’s ok but it works.
It does work ok but one thing I don’t like about it is the way it leaves flares on both sides of the lug especially with the smaller lugs between the 12AWG and 4AWG, I’m not sure if it does the same thing with the larger lugs, it is cheap and does crimp quite well.

Dies are wrong, leaks oil, on/off dial is backwards...
This thing was a bad purchasing decision by me. Multiple issues: the simplest problem is that the on/off dial is backwards - which is easy enough to figure out but still weird. The dies that were included are all stamped with both a numeric value AND an AWG value - but the dies for AWG do not map to the actual AWG wire sizes in any consistent fashion. Every time I needed to crimp a cable I just had to eyeball it and try multiple dies until I found one that (sort of) fit. The most annoying thing is that it's impossible to RELIABLY get the hydraulic action to actually work. You'd think/expect that turning the dial to one end or the other (because, remember, it's labelled wrong!) would put the tool into "pump to close" mode. But it doesn't. Usually I had to fidget with the dial where it's set "almost but not quite" to the end of the turn, and then whatever hydraulic magic would engage and it would actually pump/compress -- at least for a little while. At least half the cables I made I ran into the case where I'd find that sweet sweet spot on the dial, and the piston would start to close, and about the time it got to putting pressure on the lug it would stop compressing, and I'd have to fidget with it again to get it to start compressing... and if you turn the dial even a millimeter too far the other way, the piston releases and all that work is wasted and you have to start again. So instead of what should take about 90 seconds (select correct die, load die, load lug, put wire in lug, turn dial, pump handle about 10 times) ended up taking 5-10 minutes for every connection I needed to make. It was awful. On top of that, the hydraulic oil chamber leaked fluid and ruined a shirt of mine - at least it was a cheap one. Maybe I just got a bad one and somehow that covers the dial and the leaking, but the dies are still wrong.
