The Haunted House (Choose Your Own Adventure Jr.) Review: Not as scary as I thought. Perfect for my five year old - I love this series for my five year old. I first got into this series with an obviously non scary book about a missing dog. I was a little leery of this title as my kid is super scared of a lot of things. It turns out that the endings are nothing creepy like I remember with the choose your own adventure books from my youth (those were aimed at an older audience and this series targets the 6-8 year old crowd). These books are so much fun. Review: Brings back memories. - I purchased this as a way to get my 7yr old to read. We had these I. The late 80s - early 90s. He likes the fact that he had choices. It’s not magic but if I sit with him he will read it and enjoy it.

Nice concept endings are lacking
My 4 y/o loves the Choose Your Own Adventure books and what a great concept to gear them towards a younger audience! The positives of this book are: easy vocabulary very child friendly and not scary at all giving the child control of the story can breeze through all 12 endings fairly quickly without a ton of redundancy Negatives: grammatical structure sometimes seems awkward endings are weak and unexciting no educational incorporation as in the older child series of CYOA I really wish Montgomery would have taken the same style as in "The Abominable Snowman", "Journey Under the Sea", etc and added some educational value to the books and stronger, more incorporated endings... however, these are great for the 3 year old range and a bit beyond.

Good book, good stories
Best way to encourage kids to read is to have them immersed!

I was a fan of these books when I was young and I now share them with my son.
I used to borrow these books from the library when I was in middle school and I thought it was a good time to share them with my son as well. I think I enjoyed them more than he did, but he still found it interesting and read the multiple times to get different routes.

Love interacting while reading. .keeps kids engaged.
I give it only 3 stars because even though it's an awesome book, the idea of interacting is awesome but having the same beginning gets old. My kids want to read it over and over but make me paraphrase the beginning. I wish there was a few different beginnings. Also, this book is for very young kids. My children are 7,8 and 9 years old and this book is for more like 4 to 7. I found that there is more of these books but they are rated for a bit older children. Also, my autistic son won't touch the book pages of normal books negate of texture issue and these books are high gloss pages.

Great book! My son loves the large print and the short read in between choosing a new page. The stories are fun which keeps him wanting to start over and read a new adventure :)

Nice concept, I bought this because it was a simple level and I liked this open ending books when I was a child so I wanted my daughter to experience one. However, the endings are a bit of a let down to us... maybe we were just expecting something else.

I read these books when I was growing up and I was thrilled to find them again to buy for my sons. The text is a little easy so its not so much for my 9 year old to read himself but its the idea that I bought it for. ie. Do you go down to the river? or cross through the forest. You decide. My youngest loves this type of scenario too.
