Is this made of high carbon steel?

I don't know probably not...it is made for casual home use...if you need it professionally I'd spend the money on a high grade tool...you know you get what you pay for...for me it is great...

Is there a sheath available to fit this saw (other than the cardboard one that is included)?

Yes, mine came with a tough, plastic sheath. Good thing, too, as this saw is SHARP! Use with care. It really cuts easily, is very light and has a wonderfully comfortable grip.
