I bought this for a Bible study at my church. It had a lot of unique insights, things I had not considered before. I enjoyed reading it immensely. For Catholics, it has references to when each passage appears in the mass lectionary, as well as references to where it can be found or discussed in the Catechism. Excellent. I will keep this series in mind when I am looking for a commentary on other books of the Bible.

I have learned so much from this book and as a novice it talked to me. Putting the gospel into historical real-time people and their lives fills out the picture.Read this on Amazon Kindle fabulous with all my hightlights/notes. Can't imagine what a paper copy would look like by now!My next one is Revalations, can't wait to see what revelations I learn!Thank you for this series, most readings are over my head or not enough "meat", this is perfect, expands my mind, but doesn't take me to a place like I am reading a foreign language.

First time I've read a commentary from this series. I'm really impressed with the writing. It is very useful for an ongoing study group I'm in. We're doing the Gospel and Epistles of John, and then Revelations. I'm going to be trying out more of this series as time goes on. I highly recommend this as a good Catholic commentary faithful to the teachings of the Church.

John the Evangelist was one of the Heavenly Group with Our Lady; St Joseph;the Lamb of God on the altar with a cross who appeared toa group of People here in Knock Co Mayo Ireland..No words were spoken but the Mission of Christ is already outlined in John's Gospel.John is depicted with the Book of the Gospel in his hand and he is silently preaching to all who want to listen!.I thank the two authors for their work. The skillful set up of contents alone, is very useful. A valuable resource book and a great companion to the Gospel of John.

This book was perhaps a little longer than it needed to be, as there was a bit of filler here and there. But, it was certainly not a waste of money. The analysis is solid and enlightening, and the writing is done in a very easy-to-read style. Sections are also nice and short, so a single section — covering a section of Gospel text — can be read in under 10 minutes.

This is an excellent commentary on the Gospel of John. Does not have all the detailed analysis of historical-critical commentaries, but is still excellent for academic applications and for personal enrichment. It has proven really useful for homily preparation. Fr. Martin was a mystic and an intellectual giant. His other books too are, in my opinion, top of the line.

This is great! Very much enjoyed the explanation and references. I have been reading a bit everyday… feel so blessed to have found this!

Insightful commentary on John.. Greek translation of important words are given within the commentary.. Spiritual reflection in given at the end of each section..Only negative is that the glued binding is no that good.. Around page 40 the binding got split.. For the price, it could have been a sewn binding like the Ignatius press books..

This is a most helpful and readable commentary for anyone who has an interest in learning more about this gospel. As well as providing a thorough introductory commentary, the authors also go beneath the surface meaning and give sufficient background to reveal a deeper understanding of the text.
