Yes, these really work. Really.
I'm an engineer, and a skeptic, so when my sister-in-law told me these balls really work, I was not convinced. After using them for a couple of months, I can say positively that they work. The clothes dry faster, and come out fluffy and soft. But how? The introduce static electricity, that's how. The balls, with their fine wool composition, coat the dryer contents with static electricity as the dryer rolls - forcing the dryer contents to repel against one another giving them space to fluff, and to dry more quickly. You will notice that there's more static in the laundry pile after the dryer is done, but your clothes will be softer and drying time is reduced by about 20% because the contents were floating more free inside the dryer. Our large home dryer has four of these balls in it for each medium to large load. It is important to not over-stuff the dryer with too much at one time, because to work properly, the wool balls need some available space for the laundry to fluff. Also, expect that one or two of the balls will from time to time get caught up in a shirt sleeve or fitted sheet - you need to "hunt" for them in the load as you fold. But that's just fun.Oh, and they seem to last forever. I don't see why they'd need to be replaced, unless they're lost to the place where the odd sock goes to.

Not what they used to be
Horribly shed all over every load of clothes. I had the real “Woolzies” from this company 4 years ago and replaced them with what I thought were the same product from the same company...not at all. Each piece of clothing had wool hairs intertwined in the fabric taking me, seriously, about 10 minutes per item to get every hair out. Horrible horrible product now. Disappoints me that companies change the sourcing and quality of their products for a quick buck. Do not recommend anymore. My old ones were wonderful!

Well worth chasing across the utility room floor!!! (has updates)
I waited a full year before writing this review, even though I was thoroughly impressed with Woolzies XL the very first week. These babies really do work! Will they improve your dryer's performance? ... YES. Will they totally eliminate *all* static in your laundry? ... NO, but dryer sheets won't either, and the sheets don't help the clothes get dry faster.I dry approximately 10 loads a week. After a year of use, the Woolzies have a few pills and one even has a small chunk missing thanks to my dog who chases and retrieves balls much more efficiently than I. The Woolzies utilize escape tactics when you're removing laundry from the dryer, but they are well worth chasing across the floor between loads. Your skills of keeping them contained will improve once you learn their tactics. Although not a pretty as they once were, the Woolzies are still fully functional and look as though they will go another year. (see the photo I've uploaded of a new Woolzie next to my originals that are 18 months old). One reviewer mentioned that they will get in the corners of sheets, etc., which is true, but it does not stop them from tumbling around -- they just take the sheet with them. They will fall in and out of sheet corners many times during a cycle.Even though my dryer has the sensor that is supposed to end the drying cycle only after the contents are actually dry, it never seemed to work out that way. Unless I was drying microfleece or very thin knits, my clothes and other laundry was never completely dry when the dryer stopped. If I were drying jeans or towels, it was not unusual to run the dryer 2 or 3 times before achieving total dryness. It NEVER happens anymore. No matter how heavy or thick the load, the laundry is dry when the buzzer goes off. The clothes are beautifully wrinkle free as well. Polyester knits still have static issues if the weather is really dry (which rarely happens in Louisiana), but a can of Static Guard Static Cling Spray, Fresh Scent, 5.5 oz. kept nearby takes care of the occasional clinging issue.Overall, I know without a doubt that I have saved enough to pay for these several times over, when you figure electricity and the elimination of dryer sheets from my shopping list. These are much better than the competing brands, especially the little plastic ones with bumps, which crack fairly quickly and make a lot of noise bouncing around. These only produce little muffled thunks, instead of steady thuds (you get used to it pretty quickly and the sound disappears into white noise). I recommend these wholeheartedly and they also make a wonderful gift.***UPDATE***: Eighteen months into my use of Woolzies, I got a new HUGE dryer, so I purchased another set of Woolzies to throw in with the old ones. I uploaded a photo which shows exactly what an old, heavily used Woolzie ball looks like next to a brand new one that has never been used. The box that contained my new Woolzies actually reads that the pilling on the Woolzies help them work even better. I'm not removing the pills!FINAL UPDATE: After four years and thousands of loads, I am starting to retire the original Woolzies. With the large capacity of the dryer, I use 18. The original balls are very loosely bound, and many started to unravel. My cat really enjoys batting them around, and doing the final unraveling. I then cut them into pieces and use them as part of the stuffing for pet beds. Nothing goes to waste.

Woolzies Made 2017 Suck Less
Where do I start. . . 2017 sucked, but these little purple balls made it suck a whole lot less!! I’d been eyeballing these for 6 months and they did the in the basket out of the basket and back in the basket dance many times. Now I kick myself for not getting them sooner! Where I live had just miraculously survived 2 back to back category 5+ Hurricanes {they were stronger than anything else ever recorded} less than two weeks apart. We didn’t have access to our water for almost 2 weeks. My home was/is a mess with dirt, debris, and mold everywhere. Trying to do laundry on the generator was impossible and expensive. My dryer was taking 3+ hours to dry one load. I was stressed about everything and wanted to make one thing less difficult. So I splurged {it was a splurge because it could of been a tank or two of propane to give my home electricity and keep my food cold and I was out of work and had no money coming in} after telling my husband we NEEDED these with tears in my eyes I placed my order. No less than 20 minutes later a super nice and really kind woman working at Woolzies called me up to confirm my shipping address {it’s an island, we are American, everyone forgets about us and shipping can be a pain} I panicked. I was ready to be heartbroken that they couldn’t ship to me, but alas she was the kindest, sweetest, most beautiful unicorn of happiness in the shithole that was my new day-to-day in post hurricane life. She told me they would be shipped out that day and would get to me soon. This was music to my ears. Her kindness practically made me cry. Now I can’t remember how long it took to ship here, but the shipping time was at the mercy of the military that had taken over the airport and were only letting relief supplies come in. Mail wasn’t at the top of the priority list, but to me these were! I was like a kid on Christmas morning when they got here! I couldn’t wait to do a load of laundry, I was so excited! There is no way I could have been prepared for the amount of time these saved me. 3+ hours down to 40 minutes to dry a load. It was like magic. I didn’t believe it, but it was true! I was no longer a slave to my washer & dryer and I was able to get things clean in a time & cost efficient manner. I tell everyone about these. I’m the weirdo that bring some them up in conversation just to talk about them. They made it into my top 3 best things I did in 2017 list. Best. Buy. Ever. Do it. You won’t regret it. Although the one drawback would be I don’t have as much Netflix time per load when I use these. I also got the lavender oil to go with it and I love it!!! Thank you Woolzies for making 2017 suck less and thank you for giving me some compassion when things were tough. I don’t know that you know how much it meant to me during such a difficult year! Wish I could give you more than 5✨

Great alternative to fabric sheets.
I like that they reduce the static without having to use fabric sheets, which I am not a fan of. I use quite a few at a time for more efficiency.
