Scraping the Keel
Another selection of articles by John Keel. He covers such matters as anomalies discovered on the moon, as revealed in official NASA photos, ancient civilizations, the yeti, mystery airplanes of the 1930s, ancient astronauts, mind control and posthypnotic suggestions, spiritualism, plus his idea about the "superspectrum", as discussed in his book The Eighth Tower. As with previous books in this series he just skirts over the various topics. Probably a better purchase would be the book of the TV series Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World for some of the subject matter. He's quite forthright in his opinions, as to be expected, e.g. insisting that there was no UFO crash at Spitsbergen in the 1950s. Also, he appears to think that alleged contactee George Adamski was telling the truth about his encounter with alleged Venusians and that the Venusians were really manifestations of fairies. The gloomy view expressed in The Eighth Tower that we are biochemical robots, helplessly controlled by forces that can scramble our brains and destroy our memories, along a path to obliteration also appears here. Keel appears to have accepted the novel Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke as fact. He discusses the feats of Daniel Dunglas Home and seems to be pondering whether by utilising some "force" the process could be stopped or maybe reversed. He seems vague on the subject.Overall, it's possibly the weakest of the series so far, but I does contain one undoubted highlight, a lengthy interview he conducted for High Times magazine in the mid-80s. He talks about various incidents in his life, e.g. snake charming in a shop window to promote his book Jadoo. In the absence of an autobiography the interview in chapter 19 is the next best thing. The articles are arranged in chronological order, which made the book feel better organised than the previous books in the series.

Fantastic book!
I love this book! Couldn't put it down!! It's lots of individual articles written by the great John Keel. Probably THE best researcher of the 'Unknown' ever. Each article is on a slightly different topic and all equally enjoyable! A must for all serious researchers!
